task 7
desert night to day

UHU
LIDL-WAYNE
Welcome to the seventh panel of LidlTerm S4!
There is nothing that I love more than deserts. They simply speak to me, offering me consolation, peace and inspiration. They're environments that clear your head. So empty and yet so full of something inexplicable.
This week, the designers were asked to create a 2-in-1 look, in which the look had to feature a reveal as well as be appropriate for a transition from a cold desert night to a warm desert day. A desert's average temperature at night is -4 celcius/25 fahrenheit at night and a desert's average temperature at day is 38 celcius/100 fahrenheit. Let's see some hot ass fashion!!!
Ah yes, Snawl is joining us.

Absolutely love the print you’ve come up with on the pants, it looks like a desert sunset in the late hours. The daytime version is the best. It’s stacked with cool details, appropriate for the desert climate and it feels very Herby as well. The deep, wine-red belt is impactful. As for the nighttime version, I find the headpiece to be beautiful and a little bit avant garde even: mystical and magnetic. I’d love to see that same source of inspiration in other parts of the look. The jacket/top just doesn’t do it for me, I am sick and tired of that tent-like structure thing. All in all, you created a fashion fantasy and that’s what it’s all about.

harry
You are such a dramatic designer & artist! And this is not a disappointment in that. You ooze confidence. I like how you played with every layer, every strap, and every buckle you could grab your hands on.

brad
My favourite palette of the week bar none. Your daytime outfit is flawless, I can't stop staring at it. Nighttime is great, love the head accessories. The back swords are a teeny bit awkward and ill-fitting, but otherwise you aced it.

We've seen a lot of feather-y power bitch dresses a lot this year, which I now proclaim to be the official PR trend of 2023. On one hand I'm a bit tired of it, on the other I haven't really seen it done this well before, as far as feather-y dresses goes, this one takes the cake. Your designs often feel grounded in a very European western, cold context and it's super interesting to see you rendered in a desert setting: it was worth the wait. The top structure with the belt is sadly a bit unoriginal but the second skirt is simply out of this world: so inventive, creative and precisely what I love about you. It looks half disintegrated, which is even cooler because it's an ''after'' and not the ''before'', like something happened to the skirt's textures in the reveal process. The body net concept is also really hot (no pun). Well done Sonny!

harry
This is smart. This outfit demonstrates clear understanding of heat, except the harness in the day maybe. But you have thought about keeping shaded from the sunrays, in a really editorial way, me likey

brad
I love the couture angle. Nighttime variant is boisterous and in-your-face, daytime variant showcases intricate textures. The veil & mesh combo is stunning. Colour palette is clean, posh, and black is used appropriately. No complaints from me.

A bit conflicted on this one. The abstract vertical pattern which you've come up with is marvelous, you've spoiled us with plenty of innovation this season and I want more. There are two problems: the purple color is in this instance a bit too fancy tea-time in England than it is a desert color: I rarely relate the color purple to a hot climate. The other problem is the night look. There's a lot to love about it, however it just comes across as very bulky, almost like a wedding cake, without there being any big pay off. Voluminous fashion is great as long as it hits a note. The daytime look is spectacular, a simple silhouette loaded with texture and grasping details.

harry
Your day-outfit is definitely the showstopper between these! The details are immersive and perfectly executed. Love the vibe you gave this week. Goodjob! Great contrast too.

brad
The nighttime variation looks awkward and unstable. The cape, for me, just doesn't gel with the gown. Your daytime however is absolutely fantastic, one of my favourites this week. Very nice use of earrings too.

Filip
Your two strengths this week are charm and styling. All you need in life, really. I adore the sleeveless desert fox jacket in the daytime look, my jaw dropped when I saw it. Completely in love with it. The glasses with the jewellery on the faces is very inventive and it takes the look to a different level. The shoes, rendered in primary green, was a cute nod to the cactus, at least that's my idea of it. There's an attitude to both of your looks which elevates your design choices, however, the night look is just a tad ... unimpactful. The brown coat and the dress underneath doesn't do much for me, although I must say I appreciate that there's a green pattern that more or less ends with the shoes. All in all, this is a new side from you which is fun and exciting, although I don't want you to give up the aesthetic you've previously shown, the more editorial couture one.

harry
This is almost solar, and also punk, so.. Solarpunk! I absolutely adore the choices you have made this week, and pretty smart ones too, whilst overs let their head & face burn in the sun, you covered up and stayed cool! Awesome glasses extension.

brad
Is this a Project Runway outfit, or leaked photos of the next Apex Legends fighter? Nighttime outfit has potential and I enjoy the colours, daytime however looks too costumey for my money. Ambitious, but unrefined.

Filip
The pants are insane, just incredible. They have this cool print on them that you’ve achieved through some smart choices and by not being afraid to utilize color. It is without a doubt the best thing I’ve ever seen you come up with. I’ve said it before and it applies now as well: there’s nothing more I love in PR when designers are able to come up with stuff that looks like a brand new clothing item. Although you incorporated various shades of blue, I find that they have that hippie-desert-wanderer feeling to them. The headscarf is quite nice and I like that you chose a top on the daytime look that is skin-colored but not a nude illusion, it’s something we rarely see and I appreciate that. The baby blue coat I just don’t get. It’s too western, too springtime in the rain.

harry
Fabric on layers, layers on your fabric. Your posing definitely helps the contrast between both. Not the most compelling this week, otherwise pretty nice.

brad
First outfit is cozy, compact, and features fun fabrics. You lose me completely on the daytime outfit; the hijab looks slapped on in Photoshop and the Bohemain belt gives you a beer gut. Outstanding colour palette however.

Filip
I do love this leather, slightly grimey, wild west, garage glamorous aesthetic and always will. I haven't seen this side from you before, perhaps Luseliya is changing right in front of our eyes? I'm very intrigued to see what you will do next with this point of view, at least I'm hoping you apply it again with a little more finesse. The firist look is just a little dull: it's nice, it has a strong, earthy color palette but that's about that. The second look is exquisite: you've matched a cool top that looks both intricate and simple with a bottom that both compliments the top but also stands on its own. I'm a fan of this, even though I find that it could have more oomph and be even better. Also, love the glasses!

harry
I have to say I love the simplicity, not over-designing in any way possible. But it does make me beg for more! As I know you can be SO SO fashionable and I wanna see more!!

brad
With the bottom half being present & untouched on both versions, you want to make it the most show-stopping aspect of the outfit(s). Sadly you didn't, for me the bottom is completely forgettable. I do enjoy your top textures on the nighttime (Filip's note: daytime?) look a lot though.
ELLIE

Filip
Ellie, this was a big shock for me this week. Not that you haven't done good previously, it's just that when I saw these two looks it felt like you had done a full year of design growth in a week. This is the first time you submit a design that's completely fearless. The fascinating thing about this is that there's two spectrum to this concept and creation of yours, and yet there is a red thread. Completely different and yet the same. The night look has a sheltering feeling to it and it looks like futuristic urban streetwear, in a desert context that is. The daytime look made me drop my jaw, you've come up with this mosaic-art looking corset top. It's like something a high-end pop artist would wear while posing in the desert sand for an album cover. Another fantastic aspect is that the jacket in the night look isn''t closed but rather a tiny bit open, and yet the daytime look that is revealed is a complete surprise. Gorgeous color palette as well. Proud of you Ellie.

harry
Oh my god, you are the new girl on the block, the new sensation. Breath-taking work this week. You took a risk and played it frisky, definitely not what I was expecting!, in the best way possible. Very well-done!

brad
You understood the theme well, it is not a stretch of the imagination to envision either of these wandering a desert. Colour palette is nice, although I think you could have fit a tertiary colour somewhere to cut the brightness. It's a solid submission regardless, well done.

Filip
Oh my, Peyton, where have you been?! You're taking storming steps towards the finale with these past 3 looks. It seems to me that when you go 50 % commercial and 50 % editorial, you reach a personal perfection. Please take note moving forward! I hate to compare designers to other designers because we are all our own unique thing, however, I find this to be very Italian couture, there's a touch of Versace here. Make-up and hair is on point. The night look is so beautifully layered: lots of it and yet not too much. The texure of the dress goes well with the jacket's textures and the overall layering feels extra rich thanks to the coloring choices you made. The desert daytime look is my favorite. I am a huge sucker for a semi-simple, flowy couture looking dress. It's simple yet it feels special. It has a high-end quality to it while it also looks a bit rugged, like it's spent a few months in a corner of someone's room: perfect for this task which almost asked for it.

harry
Someone already stole the new girl on the block, so you are the new bad boy on the block. This is 100% in the top 3 of the most high-fashion outfits this season. Keep this run up. Very well-done.

brad
The saturation of browns is gorgeous, and the kisses of green are technical and smart. Make up and head accessories add personality and look editorial. Wish your 2nd variant "took off" more, but regardless you did great. Well done.

Filip
I wasn’t expecting a sporty, western jet set approach to this task. The constant unexpectedness from you has so far paid off, however, this was perhaps not the right approach. I adore the summer-y print you used as well as the semi-draped night top you came up with: it just looks more like resortwear than desert wanderer couture. A great strength of yours is that you're able to come up with designs that look effortless, fun, and fresh. There's always a cool vibe to everything as well, which is perhaps achieved through careful and tasteful styling. This task asked for some more experimenting and a greater ode to the desert landscape, however, you've once again intrigued me, even though you didn't hit every mark.

harry
This is definitely a laid-back approach from you, which is nice to see!.. By far not as compelling as the other designs you have shown already though. Lovely shorts.

brad
Nighttime outfit is cute and compact, with smart uses of orange & yellow on the bottom. Daytime however is really plain, looks more like poolside resort lounge. Would feel right at home in a CC which is something I've never found myself saying about you.

Filip
Oh my, this is interesting. You won FreshFaces with your dystopian water-related collection, which also happened to be a big fan favorite. It feels like we are getting a desert-angled look from that collection. The textures on the night look are so eye-catching, it looks like a teal shiny leather was utilized. The red hair is also a smart choice since it's such a great and beautiful contrast against the color palette you chose for the textiles. A funny, yet unfortunate, detail is that it looks like the night look is hiding a longer dress, only for it to be revealed that the day look involves a frumpy beige skirt. Oh well! The experimental layering composition that is presented in the daytime look is nice, although it's been done before. I have to agree with my co-host Brad: it has eastern influences to it and yet it feels a bit cold and rainy for a desert-inspired design. I'm excited by the aesthetic on display, yet not so fulfilled by the designs in relation to the assignment.

harry
The perfect word for this is: Charming! This is absolutely lovely. Looks like a girl on an adventure.

brad
I don't quite get "desert wanderer" from your nighttime outfit, you look more like a tourist in Moscow during heavy rainfall. Your vision comes through better on the second outfit, and I love your colour palette. Adding beige to the mix was smart.

Hard work pays off, as does personal creative journeys. This week, you wandered a personal desert and found success. Your looks weren't just divine, it also felt like they challenged the mind and that they're trend-setting rather than them following a set of trends. I didn't know you had this in you: now I want to see it every week moving forward. Congratulations, you've earned two keys.
