task 5
revenge of the fur coats

Welcome to the fifth panel!
This week the designers became furries / were given the incredibly difficult of designing an editorial outfit that conveys a model wearing fur, in which the fur is mutating and taking over/dominating the model in an almost The Last Of Us kind of way. The designers were told that the outfit shouldn't just feature fur in a straight forward way, but rather in a bit of an unsettling way.
AOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

This is like Cruella DeVille's fashion-forward teenage son: it features classic, grandiose fur elements and some other elements that ties it into modern time such as the black & white print, the hair and the black leather belt. The teal shoes are a breath of fresh air in this instance, it's incredibly effective to have it all in black & white and then to have the ending be a statement color. One part of me thinks this is a bit confusing: what really is going on here and being conveyed? The other part of me is curiously intrigued, which is always a good thing in fashion. What you also deserve credit for is that the print on the shoulders is different to the print on the shirt, and yet they match. I'm always a sucker for mixing prints. It must be said that your model looks swallowed as well. Sure, this silhouette is a tad unflattering, however I feel like this was the challenge in which that's alright.
harry
Interesting! The matching shoulder pads and chest area is genius and is so satisfying to me. I am not entirely sold on the coat and everything being so matchy-matchy, but it really helps to create the aesthetic you have achieved. You have also ironically matched my mini-term theme of 'Fat & Shapeless' haha!

cinthia

Filip
Cinthia, you're blocking yourself from personal, creative growth here. In season 3, you were way more keen on trying new things but that Cinthia-oomph was missing for several tasks. This year the problem seems to have reversed: everything you create has that dynamic factor to it, and yet you're stuck in your comfortable ways. This look is more or less the same look you submitted for task 1, only that we now get to see the back, with a new skirt and a bunny on your head. Watching a shortterm you recently took part in, you have so many good, fresh ideas - why are you recycling the same concepts that haven't won you any keys? The bunny idea here is cute and I see the abstract way it's presented: the representation of mutating fur is not so clear here but I actually appreciate the less obvious route you took. The combination of different shades of pink/purple is really fabulous as well. For 3-4 weeks, please stay away from shiny black top pieces. As someone who loves volume, I wouldn't think I'd get bored of volume but here we are: you need to give those feathers/wings a rest.

harry
Cinthia I saw you in Habbo not long ago, twice, both times in your regular Habbo attire. Filip once told me something VERY useful, which was to 'Design how I would in Habbo' - Because you are entirely insane in the BEST way possible, because you are a beast.

Filip
Simply put: this is majestic. Sure, I've scolded a few designers before for having gone the Emperor's New Clothes route before, yet I see this creation in a different light. Sure, there is plenty of nudity, yet it's done in a way to act as a canvas for the artistic ideas taking place, rather than ''oops here's my ass!''. Hair creations have been an interesting semi-trend in PR over the last few years: now and then we've seen amazing designs which vantage point has been hair, but it's a trend that never really stuck. Even though I've looked at this design about 30 times before writing this, I still find it just as riveting and enjoyable. To me, its an abstract, fashionable rendition of a cat-like creature resting on your head, only to mutate and have the creature and the model become one (never thought I'd write that comment in a longterm). The orange color is both soothing and yet attention-grabbing, it was a smart move to utilize a dark color that isn't black. It makes the gray details have a stronger presence while it also doesn't obscure the main aspect of the design. Even though your model looks very entangled in hair/fur, there's something vulnerable and exposed to this.

harry
AnD Welcome back the wizard!!! - God you are a powerhouse. Your design capabilities are out of this world, I love to see the perspective of your outfits, especially from being away from Habbo for so long.

Filip
This week, you truly used yourself as a template. You took the less-is-more, dramatic BUYARTPOP aesthetic and utilized it as a a guideline for you in this task. You can tell that you didn't ask yourself ''what should I make?'' but rather ''what would I make?''. I believe it's a key concept to winning a longterm. It's a very subtle, risky but most importantly brilliant idea to present a mini dress in relation to the task: it's infused with details and chaos and yet the textural journey ends almost as fast as it started, it's like a fresh little shot (not trying to promote alcohol here). Sure, the head feathers are a bit gimmicky, but it also takes it into a more editoral area rather than a completely commercial one. My favorite part is that it looks like the black fur is climbing over what looks like red fur, especially on the shoulder. I believe it's in your favour that you incorporated an impactful color into your submission, it makes you stand out from your competitors.

harry
Someone took the hint to turn up the volume! This is such a cool, edgy, hot take on fur, no complaints really! The dragon wings aren't 100% neccesary but I don't mind - goodjob!

Filip
Insanity. Madness. Couture. It's just absolutely bizarre and this was the one task where going bizarre with it was the key concept for success. It really does look like a hairy monster is dominating your model from behind (oh..). Other than the fact that I love how loud this creation is, my favorite parts are the more subtle aspects such as the peach colored shoes and the sand-toned jacket. Is this a perfect look? No, the hairpiece is a little wonky and it could've been portrayed in a way that's more elevated, yet I find that you just hit the brief for this one so hard. It's exciting and that's what fashion is all about: what is the point in having you look ''perfect'' if your work sparks no reaction or feeling? What impresses me is that it's an almost ridiculous design, and yet it doesn't veer off into costume-area, it has that runway quality to it.

harry
My, my, my. Every week we understand you more and more, it's almost like you wear your emotions on your hairy sleeve. This is exactly what I was expecting when I heard the task. Incredibly impactful. 0 complaints. Please let me wear & sleep in this.

Filip
The nude illusion top, although it's not a fur-related, is very eye-catching. The caveman-piece along with the fur skirt makes for a great illusion of layer on top of layer. It's a nice outfit, perhaps it just lacks a little oomph or a kick of something? It's all a bit bleached out for me and having it in all white is not as effective as the idea might seem, sometimes it happens. You're quite good at coming up with interesting compositions on top of your model's head and I'd like to see you continue with that. All in all, it looks good but it's in need of some zest.

harry
There is parts of this that I am truly inspired and obsessed with!!! Truly I am such a huge fan of you as a designer. But I do think this week shown a little messier-side of you, which is ok! You just didn't hit me as hard this week as other weeks that you have.

Filip
To design a fashionable, editorial look that somehow portrays ''model is being dominated/eaten by mutating fur in a zombie-like fashion'' is quite a hard criteria to meet without looking too gimmicky/overly campy. I think the use of the jacket and the hat is next to brilliant: it's a lot of fur and yet a little when you think of the task criteria was: yet it works. Had it been any less fur I would've been slightly disappointed. You must be given credit for finding a hat that both portrays the idea of an animal dominating or eating your model, without it looking too literal: there's still something abstract going on. I also appreciate that you slightly extend the fur coat through the brown furry balls (...). I just wish the dress was a little more balanced somehow: it's huge in the way that it's unflattering on your model and it's construction makes it look like an uncomfortable couch from the Soviet Union. We love Soviet Union fashion, the point is rather that the dress isi slightly too clunky. A lighter, perhaps even smaller dress would've done wonders for your look. Despite all the complaining it should be noted that this is an impressive display.

harry
Did you mean to match my mini-term 'Fat & Shapeless'?, This isn't ugly! - But you do look like a barrel.. and I'm sure you will probably understand that once you read. There are aspects that I enjoy. Like the arms, neck, and head, I think it is just that extremely bulky dress that throws me off.

Filip
I will never not love an exagurated shoulder/sleeve. You definitely deserve recognition for the way you seamlessly integrated the earring into the hair/fur piece. The green pants are an unexpected and fresh choice from you. One of the criteria was to have the fur aspect dominate and almost terrorize your model. Although your design envokes the ”overgrown” idea, your model looks like they’re in total control. The task was to design something that’s gone overboard, a design which is wearing your model rather than the other way around: this didn’t quite happen. I believe where you made a slight mistake is the pants: they almost serve as a controling boarder to the growing fur (I don’t really see the belt as fur). Your taste level is immaculate, I just know you can create even more experimental and daring designs. This is at 60% avant garde mickey when I want 100% avant garde mickey.

harry
This oozes power, this is such a bold statement!! I absolutely love how you meshed and merged this outfit together in the way you did, I've not seen anything like this! Only complaint I have is maybe not enough fur? But other than that, well-done!

lobsterbiscc

lobsterbiscc did not submit this week. We wish them the best and lots of love.

Filip
So much to love here: the grimey dystopian skirt, the rich color palette and just the overall Mad Max vibe of it, which means you managed to capture the dark undertone of the task. It's a bit eerie. There's a lot of details on top of details in a nice way, it looks crisp almost. The tiny pop (Snawl just shivered) of green is incredibly effective as well among all the neutral colors. I would've liked to have seen more experimental fur, to just throw on the feather boa is a tiny bit unimaginative and not pushing it enough. You're crazy talented, problem is your competition is as well, so you have to start asking yourself how to stand out from them. I believe the coloring of the glove-shoulder-accessory makes it look like fur which I had never previously thought of, that's smart. Overall, an exciting dress with an alright fur-element.

harry
Textureeee! This is lovely, it feels like a little art-piece. You get the task across nicely. The only complaint I'd say is you look a tad 'crafty'.

There's a lot to love here. I haven't seen that funky 1970's backpacker style in a PR in a very long time, this is a fantastic take on it. Every accesory is on point here. However, do you achieve the task brief? Not really. Habbo-PR is a lot about illusions and trying to convince someone that they see what you also see. Unfortunately, that backpack full of leaves will always be a backpack ful of leaves for me, never fur. There's just a lot of conventional fabric on display here and not nearly enough fur. Is it experimental? Yeah, a little I'd say. I never want you to get rid of your impeccable sense for styling, I just wish to see you get a little more gritty and raw.

harry
I'm not sure I am fully sold on your take on this task in particular! I don't think I see fur in this. I love the vibe of the outfit itself, it might have been a killed in another task, but just not this one unfortunately.

Filip
Your design resembles something a touring artist would wear, perhaps Britney Spears for a bird cage inspired performance. You have the animalistic, slightly wild/untamed aspect down, albeit you achieved it through using very literal items. It's funny that you say you've struggled the most with coming up with color palettes: this is an absolutely gorgeous color palette, yet what you've forgotten is that innovative side of Ellie, the one we saw come up with a completely new dress and jacket in the third task. If you combine these two things I just mentioned, you'd take your designs to the next level. It's a cute look, however cute doesn't get you far in a season where no one gets eliminated and taking risks is what leads to the rewards.
harry
Hmm, I'm not actually entirely sure on how to critique this. I think you were super close to hitting gold this week, but there is just something about it making it lack-luster to me. I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe its the combination of all of the things you used together? For instance, the dino feet would probably work on another outfit better. Just a bit off-key with styling for me this week is all!

Filip
You decided to take this experimental task, centered around fur-fashion gone mad, and present a highly commercial design. It's interesting because although it is commercial, the editorial thread is still strongly present. The way you've not only chosen but placed each color of the top is absolutely masterful and it showcases your insane technical-creative skills. The blue pants have a fresh feeling to them and they create an interesting contrast in relation to the jumbled top. I find that I only have one minor issue with this: the task was about going all out and letting go of all conventionality and anything that's neat and tidy. The top is 10/10 and perfectly messy: so why the need for such tidy elements in the look (pants, shoes, hair)? The task, for once, never asked for balance but rather indirectly suggested against it. I'm being unfairly nit-picky, I know. Overall, it's an inventive and grasping look and it's always nice to see you stay true to your aesthetic.

harry
You managed to take this task and create something wearable and marketable! It's so street I love it. It might not be the most impactful, maybe in the later weeks it would be nice to see something OTT, but still polished as you do.

12 designers
3 will receive keys
This was one of the toughest tasks I've ever presented, I think all of you have reasons to keep your head up high after this one. Ultimately, the people who ended up in the top 3 managed to get the terrorizing aspect of revolting fur down a little bit better than the other designers.
In 3rd place
BUYARTPOP - congratulations, you've received 1 key
In 2nd place
HerbyMainsted - congratulations, you've received 1 key

Your design may not have been perfect, yet you came up with the most impactful and memorable design, which seems to be one of your strengths. Your creation had a yin & yang thing to it: the fur parts looked monstrous and yet your model seemed to integrate well with it and still envoke a feeling of strength and confidence. Congratulations dear! You have now received 2 keys and are a couple steps closer to becoming a finalist.
