country couture

Welcome to the eight panel of LidLTerm Season 4!
On the way to the airport (for an airport-themed task), the limousine broke down and the ten of our designers got stuck in an American, Southeastern rural farm town named Arberville. The people of Arberville graciously offered the designers to stay there while the limousine underwent a repair. The people of Arberville had never witnessed a fashion show before, and our designers were challenged to putting on one for them. The catch is that they had limited resources and were forced to utilize farmlife textiles and materials. The designers were also asked to have the countryside as an inspiration for their design.
For this task, you will get to choose from a set of materials and textiles related to the American farm life. At least 50 % of your design must incorporate these custom textiles, although you can go for 100 % if you feel like it. Upon submitting, you have to use a strong neon color in which I (Filip) or Harry will green screen it via Photoshop and apply the textiles you chose. Please contact us if this sounds complicated (it's really not!).
icearbr is our guest judge this week. The following textiles are what the designers found at the farm.

Burlap potato sack

Corn (and corn husk)

Stolen grandma knit fabric

Broken coca cola plastic bottles

Pink cow (vegan)

Regular cow (vegan)

Mmmm high fashion, editorial stuff, a couture slap on the ass. I like that it looks both tight in some places and loose in others: more often than not, that is a fashion no-no, yet here you are again breaking the rules of conventionality. I think the more structured back (and tight ass) as the center of the look was smart as it allows for the grandma knit to shine more as it is rendered in a voluminous state. The small gold details are also chic and it ties into the whole old country aesthetic, as someone who grew up on the countryside I've seen a lot of denim mixed with various metals. The styling is pretty fun as well, perhaps the Matrix-esque glasses wasn't the best decision but at least it made the whole thing a tiny bit more interesting. It's a look that seems effortless and yet the composition is a smart one. It was a great decision to make the more intricate things in denim and then have the grandma's knit shine on its own: had it been the other way around the entire thing would've looked clumsy. This excites me, fantastic work Herby!

Another masterclass in Habbo Clothing Design from you. This week you have shown a more wearable side to you, which is very well played. Versatility is what you need to show in this competition! I don't think you can ever bore us, please continute to do what you do, but please don't feel afraid to step outside of your box!

ANTHEIA-CERES

Filip
I feel like you’ve lately been really into earthy colors lately, which I like for you! You knew how to compliment the cowskin texture in fantastic ways, it’s almost difficult to see where the cowprint ends and the leathery textures begin. I would’ve loved to have seen a complimentary texture or color utilized just to give the look an extra push: it’s nice but it’s not one that you want to see for more than a minute. The insect sunglasses was a fantastic idea, they look high-end and yet are a very discreet and charming ode to the countryside theme. You keep putting out work that showcases your technical talent, the only thing missing is for you to go a bit wilder with the task, like task 2 for example.

harry
Nice take on the task this week! Feels edgy! - I would say two things, one being I feel this is more of a short-term worthy outfit. And I also believe this could be created without the need for the photoshop editing. But other than that I like it, it's pleasing to the eye...wear.

I’ve spent 10 minutes trying to think about what to say. Some looks simply shuts you up as a host, this one is a great example. I rarely see designs that look expensive and yet this earthy and lush. I’m filled with a sense of harmony looking at it. It looks fresh and fulfilling somehow: it was brilliant to incorporate a white base. It allows for the textures/print to shine while at the same time you’re not relying on it too much as it’s an interesting silhouette. The concept of matching corn with golden accessories and details is both hilarious and fabulous. I’m very happy you managed to come up with something true to your aesthetic and that is yet something we haven’t seen from you before. LC22 at a resort in California.

If Habbo had a dictionary, this outfit would show up if we searched for 'Fashion'. You accesorized the f**k outta this submission and I love it. So much attitude and design put into this, the shape you have formed with that corn is great. Incredible work.

Filip
Although it is a bit ”ugly”, I like and enjoy this. It’s a bold look. A little bit Betsey Johnson but 1900s countryside. You told me you struggled with your choice of textures this week and based on the sketches I saw I’d agree, still, I think it’s more important that you came up with an interesting look rather than a conventionally beautiful one. I must note that it’s interesting that throughout this journey your designs have been less department store and increasingly high fashion, as is evident in this look. This is not a homerun but it’s fun and fresh. Good job.

harry
This is cool! It has power behind it. I definitely love the amount of fabric and layers used here, and it doesn't seem overpowered at all! I'm not too sure if your coca-cola material actually looks like that specific material, but i'm not mad, It looks cool at the scale that it is. Brilliant styling. Not much to fault, just gets a tad overshined by a few outfits this week, but this week has been stacked!

Filip
I’m just confused. You chose a look that features the farmlife textures in a minimal way, in this instance there is little to no payoff. It’s a cute, sexy little look that would shine at a music festival or something. I like what I’m looking at, its just not as impactful as some of the others. The structured piece at the back is interesting and I enjoy the ribbon style bottom, it’s a neat design. I struggle to say anything else: I think you can do better.

harry
I can't lie, this is a let down, especially for someone like you. I do absolutely adore the ribbon and bow/ the tying of fabrics in the middle of your avatar, but thats about it, I think your styling let you down this week. Don't let it be a discouragement though, you've got this.

Me and the judge/s chat about the looks each week and I said this is ”wonderfully ugly”, which is a compliment. It’s like a fashion cover/spread of an amish countryside girl who tried to dress in high-fashion for the first time. Perhaps it sounds like I’m mocking you but I’m doing the opposite: it’s a fashionable rendition. The most impactful vision is often the looks that raises our eyebrows or makes us think. The Coca Cola skirt is INCREDIBLE and I might have to steal it for another project sometime, I’d say it’s your best idea you’ve presented in this competition. The top is very .. milking-cows-and-Sound-of-Music. Ugly-chic and cool. I think you’ve played it safe for long and finally you broke free and went crazy with things: it makes me very happy and proud! You’ve evolved!

harry
We have not recieved an outfit like this the whole competition! Its beautiful. It's almost like you even created your own textile within this task. The fact your skirt looks metal is genius. Most people when creating an outfit like this would end up messy, but you managed to edit. Such a clever, though-out submission this week. Good-job.

The key to success for this task was to be both clever and creative with the choice of textures as well as the application. This looks incredible, Cassandra. The jumpsuit’s silhouette is cool in itself and by applying corn and cornhusk, you elevated the look 10 times higher. It’s like a beautiful, abstract painting with a comedic undertone to it: it’s as if you at first think you’re looking at the colors of an oil painting until you realize it’s corn. Some might say you’re relying too much on the corn textures but I’d disagree. The brown scarf adds more depth to the corn colors and the cowskin purse is charming as hell. I think you cracked the code on this one: you didn’t just bring the high fashion, you also incorporated fun and charisma into it. I also like that the shoes are in two different colors (that are close to each other) which makes for an earthy effect, which isn’t achieved in the same way if the shoes are monochromatic. Very impressed by this creation of yours!

harry
To put it simply.. You have completely destroyed this task. It's one thing to just use the materials you were given, but to make them actually look like what they are is incredibly hard on Habbo Avatars. Bravo. Just what you needed to do at this point of the competition. You excited me this week and I can't wait to see more!

A look so sweet it’s giving me a sugar rush. Extremely adorable and still cool somehow? Barbiecore is right now the hottest fashion trend on the planet and I’m ecstatic we were handed a Barbiecore look on LidlTerm, finally. The pink furry skirt with the matching hat: hot as f*ck, stuff Paris Hilton dreams about. The jacket-top is really neat on its own as well: the wide blue and purple strips compliment the knit fabric surprisingly well and the puffer jacket has a structure to it that brings out the full potential of the knit’s textures. This whole look is just incredible and I can only praise you. The cowprint handbag just solidifies this as an iconic look.

harry
The first time I saw this I fell in love! That hasn't changed at all. This is comfort fashion as its HIGHEST. It's street, it's wearable, it's editorial, it's just a perfect mixture of everything we could ask for. This is probably the most marketable outfit of the season, I could see it being a 'Hot Trend'

Filip
This is so ”Dallas” (the TV show) meets ”Real Housewives of Cornville reunion”. The idea to have the eye make-up match the earrings was unusually impactful in this case. Never thought I’d see a knit gown in LidlTerm or any PR setting really but here we are: I applaud your boldness, the dress actually looks charming. I’m just sick of that belt, I feel like it has played out its role and it’s not as avant garde as one might think. The burlap coat is also nice. I think the slight issue is that you came up with two great pieces of clothing (coat and dress) and both would shine greater had they been paired with something else. Still, I am happy you are way less fearless in your design process nowadays.

harry
This oozes glamour. A subtle, but nice take on the task with that material. This feels clean & classy, I just can't get over something being a little 'off', but I don't think thats your fault, I think its just the way some of these items lay together, makes it seem a tad boxy.

Filip
More Barbiecore yay! I’ve seen this dress/jumpsuit type of look many times before and I would’ve liked to have seen a bolder and more original structure like last week. I must say that the silhouette you chose made the pink cowskin really shine. Absolutely love the hat and the entire look would steal the show at Coachella. Despite the fact that I think you could've taken this look to the next level through some more experimental and bold choices, I believe it's evident that you still manage to stand out from the pack this week, which is a great thing in the world of fashion. Also, the shoes are cute!

harry
This is cute! - It has a gentle, yet bold aura to it, 'pop-punk' maybe. It's not the most ingenius design this week, but it holds its ground. If you can find a way to produce more impact within your designs, you will definitely be able to snag another key or two towards the end of this competition.

10 designers
4 will receive keys
Once again a great set of looks, I feel like the 10 of you collectively just get better and better as a group: there's more risks taken and everyone is figuring out their own thing. I've had a strict only 3 designers are awarded per panel-policy throughout the season. However, there is absolutely no way I could stomach only rewarding 3 designers this task. Instead, two designers will share third place this week.
In 3rd place
nicrobbo95 and Cassandra.Goth
congratulations, you've each received 1 key
In 2nd place

It was difficult to choose a winner this week, yet I find that your look just had that something extra to it. You managed to come up with a design that looked high-end and yet down to earth. You also embraced the materials and used them as a strength. Your look was so damn fresh, perfection from head to toe. Because of your fantastic work this week, you've received 2 keys, congratulations.
