Let me present - my fantastic four!

Throughout the season, our four finalists had to battle it out each week against other designers for keys, of which the three designers with the most keys (Fierce.Needles, nicrobbo95 and LC22) advanced to the final. BUYARTPOP was chosen as the fourth finalist by the Season 3 winner Harry / .Uhu

It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to create a collection like this, and all four collections represent that. Each collection has a certain joy towards designing within it. It is also a privilege for me as a host to get to judge a season in which the cast has been incredibly nice and cooperative. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this the smoothest, most enjoyable experience I've had as a host *presses trap-door button*

One new aspect, introduced in this season finale of LidlTerm Season 4, was that each designer got to order a custom made accessory from Filip / Lidl-Wayne and Harry / Uhu. Filip created the custom accessories for nicrobbo95 and BUYARTPOP. Harry created the custom accessories for LC22 and Fierce.Needles.

Alright, let's choose a winner!

fierce.needles
quack quack

I am so happy to be able to share this collection. I wanted to create a fun camp collection, something that just makes me smile when I see it. The looks I have created are inspired by the humble....Rubber Duck. I hope this collection named Quack Quack brings the essence of child like joy back to everyone.

Filip

The details are what makes this outfit (because let's face it, the silhouette isn't exactly revolutionary). I think the nod to the nautical nature that is connected to the duck is charming and I find that the pointy, golden triangles close to the belt is my favorite aspect of this design. An incredibly polished look. You get stuck a bit in a loophole here: one of your strengths are commerciality. This would be commercial as hell if it didn't look completely 100 years old. I like it, but to me it's more of a costume than fashion.

Filip

Alright, now we are getting somewhere. The walk-and-pose poncho thing has been done many times before and I can't say this is one of the more inventive displays of that certain technique. However, the colors for it you chose are beautiful, I really like the sleeve and I'd like to see a whole outfit with that pattern. The accessorizing of the head is quite interesting, dystopian in a bizarre, delightful way I'd say. Also love to see some shoes that aren't so often chosen by other designers. I'm afraid this outfit relies too much on the bag: I'd like to just throw it away and see what is hiding behind it.

Filip

My favorite of the whole collection. It's sporty, it has an attitude to it and it feels fresh and new, despite the fact that you're mostly items that have been around for several years. Sportswear is one of your other strengths and this is fantastic. I love the texturized shorts against the monochromatic socks and jumper. The composition on the model's chest looks jumbled and entangled almost and yet there's a feeling of release or freedom present in your design. Very nice!

Filip

Is the hat supposed to be a cartoon-ish homage to a duck's beak? If so, that's quite funny. Clever even. I'd say this feels like two outfits in one and not in a good way. I am intrigued by the graphical visuals of the yellow and the orange pieces and the blue pieces annoy me: again there is something I just want to rip off (the coat). Perhaps the problem is that this is close to being another spectacular sportswear look and then a very un-sporty coat is added into the mix. Still, I must applaud you for the way you extended the yellow scarf, it looks great.

Filip

Stunning. I love this clown-ish, circus looking piece. It's an avant garde creation and you hit all the notes with it. Your collection was after all about a certain raw joy one usually connects to the childhood and this look represents that 100% - yet it doesn't look childish, whimsical for sure, but it looks high fashion. Lots of structured volume, incredible. The purple bag was a brilliant idea as it elevates the entire thing while it's also a bit of a discreet detail in the entire ensemblé. Standing ovation for this one!

harry's thoughts

You have truly mastered your way to this final, after completely destroying the first half of this competition it was no doubt you deserved to be here! To be truly honest (because we know what you are capable of) this collection does not represent you at your 100%, there was just a little something missing here. BUT nonetheless, this is such a fun, inviting, dainty collection and I do love it! Your choice of having this as an accessory in the boldest colour you could find, was such a good choice! Especially for the theme you chose to do. This almost feels like a pick n mix, each look represents something different. I am definitely most drawn to look no.2! So cooky and fun. The 5th look is also great, it packs a punch and is full of drama! I do wish your 1st and 4th outfits were more elevated here though. No.3 is a great sports look, but where does that fit in? Anyway, you should be so proud of your journey here! It's been a privilege to witness fierce 2.0 at it's best. I am super excited to see what you do next.

filip's final thoughts

Throughout your journey on LidlTerm Season 3 and Season 4, you've had something so creatively raw about you, a glam punk aesthetic that is entirely distinctive and that yes has a commercial shadow to it. The third look in your collection acts as a representation for your versatility as a designer and your fifth look is perhaps my favorite design I've ever seen from you, it's a perfect finale outfit. I'd even put it in my top 5 finale looks of all time. The problem with your collection is that a couple of these looks lack oomph, they're polished but they're not as impactful as they could be. I believe one advantage your collection has is that it doesn't take itself too seriously and that it was all about fun, joy and creativity - and most importantly about not taking fashion (or a competition) too seriously. When you do that in life, unless you're performing surgery on someone or driving a car, you come up with your very best work. It makes me very happy to see that you've developed such a nuanced understanding of your own creative process: that it should never be forced or be a chore.

lc22
GENDERING TEDDY - The Narcissist Cookbook

This collection explores the intersectionality between gender and appearance, subverting the traditional roles clothing plays in society. To do this, I wanted to bring in punk aesthetics, drawing upon the history it carries as a statement of resistance. I wanted something that looks like it's pulling apart the fabric of society when in reality it's sewing together the truth of these identifies that exist in between 'male' and 'female'. This collection carries a statement to those who are pushed into the 'other' box: you exist, you are valued, and you don't have to match the expectations of society to be valid.

Filip

It's a great piece to open the collection with, I feel like it summarizes it. A mixture of hard and soft. Your entire collection has an almost juvenile thing to it mixed with punk elements. I once made an Ecopunk collection, perhaps this should be dubbed Pastelpunk? It's an aesthetic very close to glam punk, although in this case I feel like you've come up with your very own thing. The shoulderpiece of rugged denim is fabulous and the accessory you designed really gets to shine here, while at the same time it's a part of the outfit rather than something that overshines the other fabrics. My eye keeps getting caught at the structured denim piece by the chest and the neck, very captivating.

Filip

As the first look comes off as a soft start to the journey you're taking the viewer on, this is where things get louder. The drama is amped up, in other words. At first I wasn't so sold on the belt, although now I think it adds to the punk rock vibe that the purple fabrics are displayed re various textures: one quite smooth and one that's more raw. The leather details on the arms really sell the look and I absolutely love how you in a highly subtle way mix two shades of metals (glove + pants), it gives the look a greater depth. Perhaps the headpiece is a little too sweet for my taste, but I appreciate the creativity.

Filip

One of the best PR looks I've ever seen. I love the take on the classic femininity of the pearls mixed with the rougher textures of the shoes and the leather belts. The gender statement that is central for your collection is evident in this design. I am enamored with the worn out bag that you somehow came up with. The almost toga-like piece of fabric on the right shoulder has something stoic about it. It's an aspect which effectively pushes the genderfuck warrior theme. It's an extremely conceptual, editorial and polished look that, despite its cold color palette, has a flame to it. Is this aquatic steampunk? Perhaps it is. An insanely brilliant use of textures. Season 2 winner alydaman was next to me when you first submitted this look and he dubbed it his favorite longterm look he has ever seen in years.

Filip

One of my personal favorites, perhaps because your collection is a lot about volume and the volume aspect really gets to shine in this design. It's like you've come up with a pseudo-skirt that is also a bit of a dress. To me this is an avant garde idea and it is executed beautifully. Sometimes when designers create avant garde designs, they fall into the trap of overdoing it or coming off as desperate: this is none of that, it is rather smooth as hell and the execution lives up to the concept. I love the many shades of blue, the muted yellow against the brighter yellow and the weird skin-colored piece on the chest. The earwarmers are a cute, unexpected accessory that blends in well and I love that you gave your model some subtle beard-shadow as it ties into the message of your collection really nicely.

Filip

Your entire collection walks the line between punk and a pastel fantasy type of aesthetic (some would phrase that as girlypop). This final piece of yours, although there is a strong connection to the other four looks, is a bit more on the punk side of things which I think works in your favour. The final look should always be you going out with a bang, which is why having the final piece be more punk is appropriate. It's not some revolutionary technique, but I think it's really cool how the lion tattoo connects with the print on the skirt. It's a design detail that feels like it should've been obvious to do and yet I've never seen it before. I am amazed by the cape you've come up with: how one side is of an entirely different textural story and the other (right side) is a bit more graphical, yet both in the same color scheme and of the same idea. The one subtle, glamorous, sparkly is so insanely charming and brilliant and punk rock at the same time. Do you notice how I'm just fangirling at this point?

harry's thoughts

Where do we start! You have truly took this task and built it from the ground up, knocked it down again, then pushed the boundaries as much as your heart could.. I don't think anyone else could have produced anything like this. A great presentation on styling and product design, you had your eyes set on a vision and executed it flawlessly. The whole collection OOZES pride and joy. It's hard to choose a favourite here because each look has absolutely 0 faults, each one is amazingly thought-out. But I have to say I gravitate towards 3, the amount of accessories used works so well together, the pearls are amazing against the buckles. All of these are mass overly accessorised.. and I LOVE it. It's almost extra but it's so clean and edited at the same time. Truly a stunning collection, it'll go down in history. You should be immensely proud of your final collection, and also your journey here. Thankyou for sharing your designs with us!

filip's final thoughts

You came up with a collection that is a powerful social statement. It's also a collection that is you in the most raw way possible. Your love for edgy things, pop things, rock & punk things, prints, accessories and details: it's all here. You've never been a minimalist but rather a maximalist and this collection serves as a love letter to who you are as a designer and what excites you (not in a narcissistic way ofc!) and I find that to be brilliant. This collection was a process of you understanding your own strengths, your own challenges and your passion in terms of design. Modern day fashion, decor and overall design is still, after many years, fixated on minimalism which is why this collection feels so fresh and engaging to me: how often do we see maximalism celebrated like this, and in a way that is both balanced and appropriately loud and yet polished? Each design in your collection is a show in itself and together they form one of the most impactful collections the PR community has ever seen. I'd also like to point out that many of these designs come across as stagewear: they look like something people like Harry Styles or any Eurovision artist would die to wear. In other words, it is clothes that put on a show, that make people feel like they're being entertained and taken care of.

nicrobbo95
HEART & BREATHE

My collection is called heart & breathe - based off the fact the collection is raising awareness for COPD sufferers like my late grandad. The orange colour, the heart references and the ribbon bags are a direct tribute to the cause and will be noticeable throughout each outfit. I chose to go for a more streetwear vibe collection to convey a sense of simplistic ease to counteract a complicated disease. I wanted the collection to be fun and almost ready to wear. I wanted the outfits to be inclusive NOT exclusive so that the average person could wear these items of clothing straight off the runway

Filip

It's dangerously minimalistic, especially with so much black, perhaps it did hurt you a tiny bit, while at the same time it's an advantage for you. At first sight it's just a black look with an orange heart and a bag, although the longer you look at it the more you see the complexity of the outfit. The top part might look easy to do or too effortless, however I find that you've presented it in a way that has such balance that it's actually striking. I rarely like hoods in fashion and this is perhaps the best use of a hood I've seen, possibly because it does a lot of heavy lifting in the look rather than it appearing as an afterthought. It's cool how it looks like the black panel is going through the orange heart and I adore the charcoal heels, a very nuanced and brilliant move from you. The fabric of the sleeves against the naked chest: fabulous.

Filip

Most likely my favorite design from your collection. I am a sucker for urban streetwear and this is urban streetwear designed and styled most impeccably. The doctor's stetoscope is such an unorthodox accesory and it all somehow works, it elevates the entire look even. You found a way to incorporate a heart in almost every look in your collection and in this instance it is done so in a way we rarely see in PR: it's a hat that is both cute and cool at the same time. The graphical top is quite intriguing and I love the orange hemline. Bravo!

Filip

I'd like to note that nicrobbo95 submitted the model with her hand/arm like that. I take it as you wanting to represent for people who may lack one body part or several, which I think is very admirable and quite honestly something we should've seen in PR a long time ago. This BDSM gown is a bit on the simpler side and that strap composition has been done so many times before, and in several ways that are more clever than this. Still, I think you found yet another way to make the orange heart shine and have an impact and I can't deny that the texture of the skirt ties in with the urban aesthetic that is your collection. I'd say the bag elevates the look and almost saves it. Not to blow my own horn here (as I created the bags) but I'd say you used the bags in all 5 looks in a way that elevated each look dramatically.

Filip

The clunky, almost metallic shoe that is peeping out from the skirt is unusually interesting, perhaps as it is a bit of a f*ck you to the conservative idea behind the silhouette that your model is sporting (that was a compliment). Even though I don't find this gown very inventive, I am still a fan of it. I love how the metallic pieces of the stetoscope connects with the shoe and the black earrings come across as a fashion statement: very bold. Gowns are one of your greatest strengths and even though I would've liked to have seen you be just a tad more inventive, I must admit that I am a big fan of this gown, even though I usually aren't of gowns like this.

Filip

You lose me a little bit on this one. Black riding hood? It's like a 1930's silhouette on display rendered through an urban streetwear lense and the result is simply confusing. I find that the bag looks great with the heavy amounts of black and I must note that it is cool how you came up with a black structure that the orange top is almost captured within: I just don't find the orange top to look that flattering on your model.

harry's thoughts

Nicro! This whole competition you have presented such glamorous, wearable, cool looks, and this whole collection is no exception to this! Each look exuberates this. When Filip told me the story and reasoning behind your accessory, it meant so much! To have such a meaningful take on this task is an extremely personal way to display your designs. Thankyou for sharing with us. Design-wise your accessory actually successfully elevates each outfit you have used it on. It suits your style very well. You have some really great, unique details on each of these looks. Especially the glitch, you are probably the last person to be able to use that glitch as it has been patched, so you have done it proud! V bold and pleasing colour palette. Your outfits don't necessarily serve as much impact as others that have been showcased this finale, but I have to commend you on showing a different style within each of your submissions. You should be extremely proud of your finale and your journey here because I sure am!, truly some of the best outfits we have seen from you this season!

filip's final thoughts

Commercial urban streetwear sometimes gets waved off as not being very artistic or high fashion, most often because a lot of urban streetwear is closely tied into the fast-fashion industry. One criticism against that area of fashion is that it lacks soul. You on the other hand found the perfect recipé: you took an urban streetwear aesthetic and injected love, soul and emotions into the whole thing which ultimately breathed life into the whole collection: you gave it a spark or a flame even. Although some of the looks are on the simpler side, it should be stated that almost every look in your collection is impactful: you make a lot of noise through a careful and restricted use of resources. One point of the collection, I believe, was to portray a graphical element with the hearts and you did so in a highly succesful way. Although the last look wasn't a favorite of mine, I can truly say that this collection is an all-time favorite of mine due to the fact that it has such a strong fingerprint in a way that is difficult to explain. You should be proud of this one.

buyartpop
future seoul

A collection inspired by the traditional Hanbok, the busy streets of Seoul and the colorful neon lights. A fun and quirky view on iconic and traditional clothing.

Filip

This dress is simply iconic. The layering is bizarre, almost like a big flower that has mutated. It's incredibly avant garde, all through a dress whose template is a commercial one. I also dig the fact that the shoes are rendered in a matching yellow but in a different, shiny texture compared to the dress. The styling with the hair and the gloves is sublime. To have one of the black layers of fabric merge with the teddy bears feet? Genius.

Filip

Pardon me for using boxing references but this is TKO (not a Tina Knowles original, a Technical Knockout). These black gloves that only start at the lower shoulder, gloves that look like they belong on a South Korean monster? Insane and editorial as hell. You somehow came up with a hat that is entirely original and I have never seen that skirt presented in that way before. This is a high fashion take on a cartoon-ish, manga-adventure type of look and there isn't a single thing to change. Perfection.

Filip

It's a cute dress packed with details, and yet it has an airy sense to it. The furry monster against the graphical sleeves has a striking effect to the look and I love that there's different shades of blue hiding in the dress, only noticeable as you look closer. There isn't much else to say really: another look that is extremely charming and captivating.

Filip

A statement piece. It's magical. Some looks in fashion takes you on a journey as you're looking at it and so does this design of yours. The kimono jacket has been used a lot over the past couple of years but this is one of the more confident uses I've seen of it, is it as if you're letting the jacket and the print be what it wants to be without forcing anything. The hat with the tiny ears is adorable; yet not too cutesy if that makes sense. You sort of came up with your very own skirt as well: I've never seen anything like this in PR. Despite its loud colors, there is something serene about it.

Filip

Wow, what a way to end this show you've put on. Although the dress uses something quite commercial and even juvenile stuffed animal as a base, it allows for new shapes and forms to take place on the dress. It's minimalism with a little bit of maximalism to it. I love that there are leather sleeves against the several layers of monochromatic fabric and I find that the black trim, which almost comes across as black leather, gives the whole look a much-needed edge. This look has shut me up, I just can't find anything else to be said. Nothing else needs to be said: this design is a spectacular fashion moment.

harry's thoughts

Well well well! The golden ticket winner!- I knew choosing you would potentially range from the outcomes of "OK" to something great... But my oh my... This is superbly epic. The sheer confidence to have used these backpacks makes me twitch in excitement. The fact that the outfits you have created do not get outshined by the backpacks is so smart, so much thought has been put into each outfit. Your accessory isn't the most outlandish, and doesn't have the biggest impact BUT what it does do is go along with that 5th look so nicely, without it I think that look would have been missing something. No.3 is so satisfying, it's SO you, where I feel the others you have pushed out of your comfort zone, it's all so astonishing! You have truly created something you should be proud of, this is what we have been waiting for all season, and you have not disappointed with this last chance you have been given. I am so happy, and you should be too, that you rose to this occasion! Your collection will definitely be one that's continued to be talked about and referenced.

filip's final thoughts

You were inspired by a certain South Korean minimalistic design aesthetic and you filtered it through your love for conventional pop-pop culture and your love for things that set a mood. I believe that this collection of yours show that you have a developed understanding of how presentation and a careful choice of what details to implement can make or break a design. Everything about this collection is flawless, and yet the technical perfection of it isn't what makes it interesting. It is the inexplicable magic that is present in all 5 looks, they all made me feel something I haven't felt in a very long time, an innocent playfulness. It made me feel like I was being taken care of (which 50% might be due to the stuffed animals, lol). I have never seen a semi-minimalistic, avant garde collection like this and my jaw dropped the moment I saw these looks. I have followed you as a designer over the years and this is without a doubt you hitting your highest note, ever.

verdict

This entire season, the four finalists have fought each week in order to make it here, and it has all come down to this...

Before I announce the rankings, I'd once again like to thank all 13 designers of LidlTerm S4. You guys made this a fashion journey and I had a lot of fun hosting this season.

We've seen four personal collections, all with their own strengths and weaknesses. As each collection is truly original to each finalist, each finalist is hence a winner. Winning a longterm is fantastic (I think? I've never done it), but even more fantastic is to design a collection that represents you as an artist, a collection in which the person got to express their true selves. All four of you should keep your head up high and celebrate this victory of yours.

in 4th place
fierce.needles

You've had one of the strongest runs I've ever seen in a PR-longterm and you showed everyone what you're truly capable of. That yellow dress you came up with for this finale has been stuck on my brain for days. I am a HUGE fan of you and your unique aesthetic and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving this season a little more edge. For your efforts, you will receive 10 USD or GBP via PayPal.

in 3rd place
NICROBBO95

Your collection had a point to it and you made it loud and clear, a collection with a lot of heart to it, both figuratively and in an abstract way. This season you grew as a designer and you came up with some of your best work ever. In Season 3 it was so frustrating to see this designer with such huge, raw potential not make it further and it has been incredibly great to see you shine the way we knew you could. For your efforts, you will receive 10 USD or GBP via PayPal.

winner announcement

Both the collections of LC22 and BUYARTPOP blew me away and it took me days to figure out who should win, especially as both collections have a winner vibe to them. My head said one designer, my heart said another, and my gut said it wanted food. I ended up going with my gut feeling.

the winner of lidlterm season 4 is...

BUYARTPOP

Congratulations BUYARTPOP - you are the winner of LidlTerm Season 4. you finally won a task, the very biggest one. That's very Jay McCarroll (PR S1 winner) of you. Your collection made a great impact on me and it even made me feel better. That's the power of fashion: it's an artform just like painting or sculpting and it can alter our moods, our minds and our hearts. There have been several collections in the PR-longterm universe and I can't say a single one I've seen comes close to your concept and its execution. For your efforts, you will receive 30 euros via PayPal. Thank you so much for this collection.

That means LC22 is the runner-up. Elysse, your collection was 10/10 and you couldn't have done a better job. Although this is a silver medal for you, I'd say that this is a golden victory for you. Your collection will remain iconic and it will be referenced for years. You are a creative force of nature. There's a saying that goes ''jack of all trades, master of none'' yet you're the exception to that saying, you're a master of all trades. Winning would be nice, I know that. A longterm win isn't exactly what you need though, you're already a winner in life. I mean, have you seen yourself?  Hugs and kisses and bottomless sour beer to you the next time I see you! For your efforts this season, you will receive 25 AUD via PayPal

BUYARTPOP is not in the Discord group chat, so please be so kind and congratulate him below!
