TASK 1 TOKYO 2021

Welcome to season 1 of LidlTerm!

I am Lidl-Wayne a.k.a Filip. I have been in love with fashion and the TV-show Project Runway since 2006, and I've hosted this game since 2008. With me I have my best friend Alydaman a.k.a Alex who is experienced in fashion and in judging longterms.

26 designers are competing in the first season to be the first

winner of LidlTerm, as well as a prize of 500 coins. The cast

and its large number has been kept secret until now. Only half

of all the designers will qualify to week 2, which makes this

task function like an audition. I want the best of the best, I

do not want to cast anyone because of their name or because

they used to be good.

If you made it, congratulations and good luck to you. If you did not make it, it just wasn't meant to be this time. One performance (in this case, one look) does not define you or

your potential. Perhaps you overthought it or played it too safe, better luck next time and thank you for your efforts. Who knows, maybe you are the winner of LidlTerm season 2?

The first task was to create an outfit for a pop star performing in the 2021 Olympic Summer Games opening ceremony, taking place in Tokyo, Japan. The designers had to make the outfit have clear and modern Japanese influences to it, as well as embody the excitement and the extravagance of an olympic opening ceremony.

Filip:  This is quintessential modern Japanese pop star. It's fun, a bit goofy and despite how covered up your model is, the design actually has some sex appeal to it. Your use of yellow is quite smart, had you used any more it would've been distracting from the pinstripe jacket, with your strategy you leave the viewer wanting more. It is unusual to find anyone in a Project Runway-context these days make something original and cool with the pinstriped jacket, with this outfit you are the exception.

Alex: Gooorgeous! It's got a unique style to it. Kind of Tim Burton meets Versace. Very cool, good colour combination and unique detailing and silhouette. Love the black hair and makeup. Also sexy legs

Filip: I've seen this dress a thousand times. In all fairness, you chose one of the better colors I've seen for it and the purple combined with that light blue are quite appealing. You have a good sense when it comes to colors. The fishnets, the earrings and just the uncreative silhouette is your downfall here. Sorry, I appreciate your effort, the make-up and hair is actually neat.

Alex: ooooooh a street bitch. There's so much attitude in this look I love it. Love the bold camp to it - the pink cheeks, odd earrings and mint green puffer jacket-skirt. It's a cool look but it's not really PR long-term standard. It's like you stopped when you should have kept going

Filip: - Your blue little sleeveless jacket which you have constructed is fabulous and represents one of your strengths as a designer, to take clothing items and construct something completely new. Your choice to incorporate movement to add a wavy illusion is impressing and overall I think this is a really strong look, your styling skills as far as choosing hair, shoes and other accessories are A+. There is one big flaw with this outfit however, the color palette and the overall feel to it is a bit depressing, which is not suitable for such a colorful, vibrant and extravagant event such as an Olympic Games opening show. Nonetheless, you start off this competition with a great outfit, overall you did well.

Alex: Hi BITCH this is very sophisticated I love it, the pale hair colour and then the darker tones below and intricate detail however feels clean and streamlined. Love the detailed holster-esque torso and the long lower half together. Nice job. Not very pop! but neither are you!

Filip: Now this is interesting. The framing of this outfit with the jacket and the skirt isn't anything groundbreaking, but the shimmering artwork you've created in the middle as well as the vertical ombre effect with the jacket and the fur is breathtaking. The bottom part of this outfit is a tad unsuccesful however, it's almost distracting. You could've gone with a simpler skirt, since the main attraction is the magical top part. The styling with the hair and the earring is so gorgeous. I wish you had gone all the way and had the balls to do a bit of a more unexpected shoe, perhaps something in a dark blue. Amazing start for you Netals.

Alex:  YES BITCH WORK. This is it Hunni. I toot all over this. So sexy, so confident, so alluring. I can tell you know what you're doing with this design. Reads effortlessly as high fashion. You used mostly red but had layers and shades to your work. The hair and earring is perfect I love u. A favourite

Filip: I will say that there is a marriage between the textures of the skirt and the top. Your styling of this is what sinks the ship I'm afraid. The hat and microphone makes your design look childish and I can't say the shoes do anything for your outfit, they're too heavy for this dress and the proportions are kind of awkward. What you incorporate into a design is as important as what you leave out, this outfit shows you did not use a critical eye. To end on a positive note, that skirt looks fabulous in the pink you chose.

Alex: I'm not gonna lie I laughed at this. What is happening

Filip: - I was very excited to cast you, knowing that you have served several strong looks in the past. You have also been very sweet and polite with me most of the times. I am surprised by the way you've carried yourself in this task. First you send me a screenshot of your look with a crappy resolution, and as I ask if I can photograph it for you, your response is ''why? Just dress as me and do it yourself''. After nagging you, you agree to come to the photo set in which you waste another designer's time who has to wait for you as you change your skirt for several minutes. When you were done, despite me asking you to leave since I wanted privacy for the designer, you kept coming back into the room even as I kicked you several times. After all this, you tried to expose me in the Discord chat, when you could've asked me in private what was up, since you clearly didn't have all the details. You've represented some really bad, toxic energy that can be found in many places on Habbo, and I don't want it in my longterm. Shame, since your outfit is one of the better ones this week.

Alex: This is cute and pop, love the asymmetrical black detail and the colour choices. Other than that it's too simple for me and been done before. I don't like that a lot of the items are left as they come, no design work other than your tit.

Filip: I'm not sure if you're ready for this competition or not. Not only is the mask distractingly looking like something from a slumber party, but the whole outfit is an extreme combination of clichés in Project Runway, this outfit has been done many, many times ever since 2015. I'm not claiming you've copied anyone or so, I just believe you played it really safe. I must say though, your color palette with the pink, purple and different yellows are exquisite. I've seen you present some strong outfits before, but  you probably have a bit more to learn before you can hold your own in a longterm like this.

Alex: awwww this is very lovely but so basic! and I do hate it also. But good work keep going

Filip: You stumbled a bit in this challenge. The styling with the hair and the red accessories makes me think of the 70's and 80's and even a bit of Bryan Adams, especially with the denim. It looks dated and not in a good way. The purple is beautiful and your composition on the top is chic and essentially you. You showcase your technical skills in this design, what's missing is the critical eye for styling. It's not a bad design, I just think it's too unmodern for this task. Next week, please think harder about the styling because I've seen you manage to turn it around and style your designs impeccably in the past.

Alex: I LOVE IT. Soooo good. The colours are all gorgeous - the skin, the hair, the faint pink and then the dirty red shoes and earring. The detail around the upper half offset by the nude section and low pant is so GOOD. And a great pose. Really like this one good job

Filip: This outfit is a difficult one to judge. You succesfully got the aura down of a modern Japaneses pop star, the styling is superb. The use of the duck tattoo is daring and incredibly hard to incorporate into an outfit and this is a rare case in which it works. Your design is like candy to the eyes, my concearn is that there is not much to judge in this outfit. Not because you used a simple silhouette (with an absolutely gorgeous color palette), but because the kimono jacket is so dominating and ridiculously easy to use, you didn't really incorporate it in a way that was a bit new, creative or challenging. That is really my only negative feedback for you, looking forward to see your outfit next week Kyle.

Alex: It's not really giving me much to live for. You put on a huge bag and covered your whole outfit. The black makes it look cheaper. The colours aren't working with each other. Noooooo :(

Filip: Tons of nerve in this outfit, bold and minimalistic. The brown is unexpected, yet succesful. Outfits which look simple yet unique are the absolute hardest ones to design, I applaud you for that. What relates this design to Tokyo 2021 is the color palette and the shoes. I absolutely adore the purple that clashes with the turquoise, as well as the bold choice to go with such unusual yet effective shoes. Most people would've gone the matchhy-matchy route with the shoes, you said fuck that and it paid off. I have nothing but praise for you this week, keep it up!

Alex: Very very very very nice. Lovely colour gradient and just feels so intelligent and on it. The colours are actually picked perfectly, it's impressive babe. Does it read as belonging to this challenge? That is a question for debate societies and professional researchers to think about for a long long time

Filip: the most impactul aspect of this design is without a doubt the shoes, you've done a great job at picking out something which is not matching and yet looks stylish. I think the choice to wear a hat that covers the eyes in an event watched by 100+ million people is a bit odd. The overall dress isn't bad, but it's not good either. The redeeming qualities of it is the orange trim on the bottom and the yellow contrast against the blue.

Alex: This one grew on me a bit. I do like the hat and the silhouette. No one did anything like this so it makes you stand out and it's confident. I don't love the sticker just kind of doing nothing there and there's a disconnect from that to the belt. Also doesn't really give me pop. It's........ok honestly. Actually it's bad I don't like it

Filip:  The purple graphical illusion is the only exciting part about this outfit, completely drowning in black. It's an ok silhouette and an ok attempt overall to this task, but I don't think you pushed yourself at all or really thought about what the best way would be to really make this task your own. I enjoy the shoes and the silhouette of the skirt, thank you.

Alex: No this is not project wear all pure black so I don't have to design anything. I don't respect this look at all. I like the hair and shoes and that's it

Filip: I am so glad you asked for your tip of the week (which every designer gets), because at first this look was way too unbalanced. The print on the chest is almost too much, in this case it extends the purple collar. You've designed a dress full of attitude, volume and energy which is exactly what I wanted this week. It's almost a bit too much though, I would've lost the belt. Your incorporation of the softer purple against the neon pink is pleasing to the eye. Outstanding job this week, keep bringing it like this, but please remember to scale it back a bit and really think about if a detail or accessory is necessary.

Alex: YEEEEEEEEEEES, YEEEEEESSSSSS, PLEASEEEEEE. THIS REALLY WAS THE SERVE. You have done it for me hun. This is my favourite look of the week. I love everything about it. That wig with that gown? groundbreaking. It's like the Beatles meets Tokyo in such a cool cool way. Everything's perfect I have nothing else to say. Love u

Filip:  No

Alex: This is cute as a sort of doll in oversized traditional clothing look. However! PR long-term submission it is not. It's just nowhere near the level. You used a basic inspiration and used the same two colours on an outfit that hasn't been designed at all.

Filip: I am confused and impressed as to how you managed to get this effect, it looks like you have two dresses fighting with each other. The contrast of the flirty, modest pink and the electric black and green is  surprising and effective. Your design has elements of modern, Japanese street fashion and I love that you chose a nude heel so that all focus is on the dress. I rarely get to see shrivelled designs like this, it makes me happy to see one done so well. Your color palette is in harmony as well.

Alex: I like your unique take on this but I don't really get it. It doesn't look that cool it kind of just looks like your clothes are moth eaten and you also look like a grandma too! Not very kawaii darling

Filip: I absolutely hate this color palette, which looks like it belongs on a low-budget sports shoe. This silhouette has been done to death, I feel like I'm watching a whole lot of nothing that really works in this outfit. Had you chosen a different color palette, perhaps some pastels or so, and added an element of surprise this could've been a decent outfit.

Alex: It's really bad but if you keep trying and never ever give up you can make it one day and I want you to promise yourself and your loved ones that you never will give up because you deserve success and achievement and it can all be yours just destroy this outfit

Filip: I wish you had taken this in another direction. I can see what your concept was but I think the execution is unfortunate. The top with the blue and red is absolutely gorgeous, sadly overshadowed by the multicolored sash. I applaud your attempt to make a look using the back, however I really find this to be a bit messy. The yellow details are probably what drags down the outfit the most. I feel like you're close to greatness however, so please edit your outfit more for next time. You could go far if you succesfully learn how to scale back.

Alex: Possibly the ugliest colour work I have ever seen. And you used so much black. The actual design is cute if you had done it all in shades of pink and whites and purples but this has STENCH to it. I do not feel good and if I'm sick on Lidl Wayne during this panel I'm showing this look to the police

Filip: I know you kept asking me for advice, you were even unnecessarily rude about it. I didn't give you any, because this outfit is beyond saving. The beret makes no sense, the designing and layering is absolutely basic and I see zero risks being taken here. I'd say you designed this in 2 minutes, but one can actually design amazing outfits in that time. This is offensively boring and predictable.  You're not ready for this competition.

Alex: Hunni what is dis? I hate it!!! haha. NO! It could have been a cute look and had potential if you had taken the whole thing and started again

Filip: in this sea of neon colors, what actually sticks out the most is the silver square in the middle, something so neutral and pleasing to the eye. You've structured your colors well: yellow->blue->pink, they don't have to fight with each other. I wish you had chosen a more neutral hair color since there is so much going on already. This has energy and many modern, Japanese influences to it. Good job Cupcake, next time please scale it down just a bit and work on bringing a more unexpected silhouette.

Alex: A good representation of the challenge! Love the hair and how you worked it into the outfit with those criss crossing colour sections and then the yellow comes down the sides and out at the end. A nice pro job. I wouldn't call it high fashion as it's a bit one note and very BRIGHT but I think it's great.

Filip: , I think you could've put some more thought into your accessories. Imagine how elevated this look would've been had you chosen some neon yellow heels and gotten rid of the earrings. There is too much black, although it kind of works in this case since it puts focus on the peculiar neon details which are the redeeming qualities of this outfit. I keep shifting between thinking this is a bit of a bore and being in intrigued by the middle part of this outfit. Had you chosen a different color palette and taken a step further in challenging yourself, this might've been a good look. It's just a bit unimaginative evene though you got the Tokyo 2021 aspects down.

Alex: This is a little bit ugly, I'm not thrilled or wowed or left shaking. I'm just sat. I do like that you've tried to make unique detail on your chest but it's very 2D and lacking imagination and the colours make me sick I actually hate this. I'm sure you're a nice person

AITISAM

stage3.PNG
aitisam.PNG

Filip:  you got the pose, the styling and the interesting, smaller details down. What is lacking is the main structure: the base of this outfit is just a bit boring to look at, the layering is basic and there isn't anything exciting going on with the black and white. Had you perhaps worn a more distinct shoe in a shocking color or introduced an element of surprise on the base of the outfit, this could've gone much further. It's not a bad look by any means, you succesfully made this look modern and Japanese, it just needs some zsa zsa zsu.

Alex: Love it! It's traditional, cultural but with elements that bring it to the modern world and still work with the look. Cool use of neon against black and white. Enjoy the walk and shape too. It's simple but good, just make sure to take it up from here

Filip: sure, this might be a bit messy and my co-host mentioned that it's been done before, despite all that  I enjoy this design. The nude heel is a smart choice, putting some colors on them would've engulfed the whole outfit. You haven't over-accessorized or put your model in any distracting hair, which speaks volumes about your sense of styling, which is just as important as the design skills. The pink strap extending around your shoulders and the bow extending into a cheeky skirt are my favorite aspects of this. This is without a doubt a design that could've been seen on a pop star in such a huge event as the Olympic Opening Ceremony. Fantastic job this week gnge.

Alex: Yes it is a serve, but like one that's been on the menu for like a really long time and they've spiced up the recipe a few times but now I'm just like get this fish dish out and off my table and give me like a red meat or something like I'm tired?? Love the strapping and the colours and hair but next week serve me something NEW and never done before also I just realised vegetarians will hate me

gnge

stage3.PNG

Filip:  Smart choice of hair, without it this design wouldn't have been nearly as good, the pastel does a great job at of offsetting the neon colors. I am slightly conflicted about this, I adore the dystopian, futuristic details of this, at the same time the belt looks a bit odd against those pants, there is just something off with the proportions here. Overall I quite like it, you remind me of a piece of candy and you definitely look like a potential pop star

Alex:  Yeeeeees this is giving me things I want. The design of the black latex/leather chaps situation is really cool and together with the mask and the daring colour choices I rate this a lot. It does feel a bit more drag than I expected to see here but I think it's the most on challenge look so far. Definitely one of my favourites! Come to my dressing room

auburnsunset

stage3.PNG

Filip: There are aspects of this I enjoy. The neon strap that extends from the pants and the metallic belt you've applied on the top feels like modern Japanese details which takes the outfit to 2021. I have several issues with this outfit however, it drowns in black and you've overdesigned in a way that doesn't allow the neat details to stand out in the way they deserve. The design is in disharmony, a simpler top part would've done a lot for yoru design.  I understand why you incorporated these shoes for a Japanese task, however the nude illusion is too obvious and irritatingly distracting. For the next task, your personal challenge will be to not overdesign while you maintain your over-the-top, vibrant aesthetic.

Alex: It's okay. I do love the vibe of it, like a cool neon streetwear remix but it is basic. Too much black, too much piled on to create texture for no reason. Not much thought has gone into this that's all I'm gonna say. Like I'm actually bored

Filip: dealing with you, you were an absolute sweetheart. I am thankful you chose to take part in this longterm and in many of the shortterms, I've seen you pull out stunning designs. This is sadly not one of them. It's not awful or anything, it just really looks like a dance costume for a pre-teenager. I know you are better than this, I'm going to let you grow and when you're ready you will go far Gummy.

Alex: cute and awful

Filip: you did a take on a lolita dress, and I think you didn't do too bad.  I quite like the odd slightly shrivelled top with the futuristic belt. The blue in the outfit is pleasing to the eye. There is just something about this that feels slightly off, and I believe it is the inbalance, there is just too much going on with barely any skin showing and two bows and a big poofy skirt. Another issue is that it looks a bit unmodern for a task like this. It's not a bad dress by any means, I actually appreciate most of it. For next week, please don't let the outfit wear you, I want it the other way around.

Alex: The one thing I really love about this is how the hem of the skirt transitions into the sock and then you have this BANG of red on top. That colour work there is very well done, so pretty. Love the bows too but other than that it's not giving much of a level. You did the assignment and it was cute. Take more risks next, trust me.

Congratulations to -austin@troy- who managed to give the best design this week. It is exciting, bold, has tons of energy and it is  minimalistic. You took a big risk with your choices and they paid off, a true statement piece.  Well done to Goofyzik and Netals who managed to reach the top 3 with their strong looks.

If you are one of the 13 who made it to week 2, congratulations, I expect great designs from you all and I want to ask you all to remember your strengths as a designer. Don't overthink this competition, design what you like and think looks good. Trust your gut and your instincts. If you did not qualify to top 13, I want to thank you for taking part this season and for providing interesting material for this panel. An ugly look is always going to be more fun than a boring, safe look.

Task 2 is now available
