task 8 just gonna stand there and watch me burn?!
task 7 trouble in paradise

Welcome to the 7th panel of LidlTerm season 1! We are approaching the finish line and it actually makes me emotional. I've wanted to host a longterm for years and it wasn't until recently I had the time, energy, resources, knowledge and confidence to do one. Thanks to the seven of you, and other eliminated designers, you have all made it exactly what I wanted it to be, and it's been a pleasure getting to know you all better, watch your growth and have fun with you guys.
For this task the designers had to create an outfit inspired by one of my favorite collections of all time: Prada SS’14: Menacing Paradise. The collection is inspired by a tropical paradise turned into a nightmare.

This is one of the few times in which not covering the green stem of that tattoo works! I am all about mixing different patterns, colors etc. Outfits that are too matchy matchy are usually a bore. That is a fine line to walk though: what just doesn’t connect and what can you mismatch and still make it look good? Your top and bottom does not connect with each other I’m afraid. You nailed the bottom part of your outfit plus the bag, it looks like tropical, infested water with oil in it. The top resembles a doomsday sky, which is task appropriate, I just feel like it’s not as interesting as it could’ve been: the bottom part deserves a better top part. Another thing, that scarf needs to be utilized in a really clever way for me to like it, 9 out of 10 times I hate it because it usually looks like people just slap it on, this is an example of it doing nothing for your design. Nonetheless I think it’s a good look and one of the most spot on regarding what the task was.

You asked me for advice and I said I wasn’t too sure about the poncho, yet you went against me and said ”I like it, it stays”. I got huge respect for that, you stood your ground and decided that what you think is more important than what I think, which is true for every designer. Winning is nice but it’s not what is most important: artistic integrity is. You successfully manipulated the pants and the top to merge into one using a bag and a belt: again you show us that you can construct unique pieces. The shoes are perfect: they represent the tharmony mixed with the tropical madness. The poncho is in line with the collection as far as colors go, I just feel like the least interesting piece is the one screaming for the most attention. I’d say this is your best outfit so far!

Instead of going the obvious way of making the skirt’s flowers be in the same orange as the top, you decided to use two different colors and the effect is unexpected, dramatic and superb. Few dare to incorporate white accessories the way you do here, as they risk looking like they were not properly considered or experimented with: in this case they balance out your design as the print is quite loud. The blue shoes and the ”belt” bring a sophistication. I wish this design had more evil to it, a bit more horror. This looks a lot like regular resort wear: some blood or wine red would’ve helped. I adore the black texture on the top side, it resembles coal. You have shown a lot of range throughout the competition which I commend you for: try to push yourself out of your comfort zone a little extra next week and you’re likely to make it to the semi-final.

This is very 80's to me, I am also getting huge ugly chic vibes from this. That is a good thing, at times, fashion designs can look so wrong yet so right. People might say ''how is this tropical'', if you go check out the collection, it is filled with outfits similar to this, heavy sweaters and all. What impresses me the most is that you got this sinister essence to your design, which is hard to achieve without using red and mostly neons. Throughout this competition you have stayed true to your distinct aesthetic, I absolutely love the different shades of blue: dark, light, turquoise. I also enjoy how you managed to integrate the belt with the hemline of the sweater, it doesn't wow me but it's something I haven't seen before. All in all I think you had a good strategy, but I also think you could've taken more risks: your silhouettes are quite simple, meaning that we need more textures if you're going to maintain that route.

Here is what I like: the middle looks like a full set of teeth from some exotic beast. I also enjoy that the tips of the scarf are colored yellow in alignment with the top underneath. I am slightly confused by this design: was your inspiration a piranha? The blue heels lift this outfit up, but I feel like something is missing, something to give this a more tropical feeling to it. To me this is a bit cyberpunk, a bit ”future fashion”, your design would’ve benefitted of you incorporating colors such as blue, green, red etc. I’m confused as to why you’ve incorporated backpack straps: what do they even do for the design? Was it necessary? I really like the concept of this and would’ve loved it in another color and for another task, but this was the time where you should’ve utilized your talent for textures which you showcased last week.

The skirt is a bit too clowny and 60's weird comedy game show for my liking. There is a tropical, soothing feeling to your top, mixed with dystopian futurism. I really don't think the styling, pale hair and pale skin, helped you in this instance: other choices could've warmed up this really cold looking design, you look like an MI5 (British FBI) agent who got forced to follow her husband to Hawaii. The shoes help bring an earthy tone to your design and grounds it a bit where it needs to be for a challenge that is all about tropical colors and prints. You kind of missed the mark on this one Cinthia, there is nothing tropical about the print you constructed, which is incredibly distracting. The gray is unnecessary, it would've looked so much better against a dark red top with a green dress beneath it. Yes, I know you gave me two outfits to choose between, I did choose the better out of the two. If you think about it, had you submitted something similar to what you did last week, you would've most likely reached top 3.

This is majestic and glorious as fuck. I don’t care it anyone disagrees: this is one of the top 10 outfits ever designed on Habbo. The aquatic shoe is perfect and brings a balance and a lightness to the heavy and structured dress. The fur on the bottom is unorthodox and risky, but due to the color it actually works. The only negative thing I can say about this outfit is that it’s a bit heavy and almost wintery for a challenge like this, I know the collection is in real life not convenient or merciful for a 30 celcius climate, but they still have a moderate lightness and ease to them. The collection has 48 outfits, this should be the 49th: the finale. The story I’m getting from this is that Dante lost control and completely wrecked Hawaii, besides some pure water still fighting desperately for its survival. The red works beautifully against the gold and the leathery details on the shoulder and the hips (achieved brilliantly through the use of a bag) is so good I want to cry. You made your competitors worried week 1, this time you have them shitting bricks.
Congratulations -austin@troy-, your design was a complete mic drop and I could not love it any more than I do right now. Well done to .Uhu and HerbyMainsted, it shows that you both really thought about how to approach the task this week.
gnge, your time on LidlTerm season 1 is unfortunately up. I know you wanted to win badly, but in the long run you did. You have had an incredible growth and if you continue on the track that you’re on right now, it won’t be long until you are the best of the best. Your sense of styling and your ways of balancing your designs is impeccable. I wish you good luck on Snawlterm and Issus/Majesteux upcoming one.
Task 8 is now available, good luck!
