TASK 2 EDITORIAL BIRDS

birds.PNG

Welcome to the second panel of LidlTerm season 1. This week, the designers were challenged with creating an editorial outfit inspired by a specific, assigned bird. What me and Alex are looking for in this task are outfits which have a strong connection with the bird, but they must also not be overshadowed by it.

Filip:  You had a risky, minimalistic approach and I'm not sure if it paid of as much as it could've, yet this outfit is an intelligent attempt at this task. The feathered skirt is a bit of a cliché and the  belt doesn't do as much as other belts could for this look, but the blue top which you've  made look feathered is beautiful. I adore anything 60's MOD, and you managed to give off that
essence. Overall I wish the bottom had been stronger and that there had been some more design work in this outfit, but I think your good eye for styling really shows, you didn't overdesign it and that is so refreshing.

Alex: I don't know what happened but girl I am living. The balls on this outfit. Yes it is awful but the way you posed and the fact you used like 4 items is kind of iconic. The non HC colours too. It has heaps of style to it and does actually evoke the toucan extremely well. But let's be honest it is awful!!! bless you x

Filip:  I appreciate that you made something avant garde, you're wearing  backpack with a tail and you're not trying to make something else out of that. You match the raven wonderfully, but I can't get over how misfitting that tail is. I suspect what you wanted to achieve with it, but it doesn't work. The black glove suits the dress well. The connection with the bird is strong. This is one of the week's strongest concepts, but you fumbled a bit with the execution.

Alex: Special girl I love this very much. It's so unique and has such attitude and very commendable to take such a huge risk only 2 tasks in. I'm gonna sing your praise bish! I love the makeup on you to contrast so brilliantly with your gown. You played with shapes and silhouette and it's just an exciting piece to look at. Definitely a top look this week for me. Very impressed.

Filip: The puffy sleeves makes me think of Christian Siriano on Season 4 of Project Runway, so I am a bit weak for designs that resembles his work the way this does. You absolutely need to tone it down. The pink hair, the glasses, the earrings and the lipstick are all way too much,  there is already a whole event going on with your outfit. Your layering has been done many times before, which sadly drags down the outfit a bit. However,  I believe this design clearly shows what you are all about as a designer.
You have a clear idea of what your aesthetic looks like and I hope you never lose that. The shoes in a more toned down pink are absolutely fabulous.

Alex:  Girl what happen? Hunny what is dis? I am looking away. I won't pretend to like it because I'm not Lidl-Wayne. This SUCKS! The only thing I like is the styling of the sunglasses, earrings and accessories and it gives me attitude and a point of view from your look which some of these girls lacked. But you may have single handedly ruined waistcoats for the rest of the competition. are you proud of yourself?

Filip: You are great at bringing the energy and the volume, this is far too costumey Herby. Using the earrings to alter the texture of the top of the feathered cowl is brilliant, and the amount of red on the chest is just right,  he blue and the yellow dominates like they should in this design. The skirt is a complete cliché and brings the look down, I really wish you had done a long, sleek and simple skirt in blue for this without a belt. This
is all a bit overdesigned and you look like you're at Rio De Janeiro Pride. You must absolutely reflect about who your drag persona is and how it differs from your fashion-designer persona.

Alex:  I don't like it too much. It lacks creativity and vision to me. The nice parts are the colour work which is very pretty but the items used make me cringe. It's such a literal interpretation. Like you did colourful feathers and just threw on any piece that mimics feathers. I really don't think it's up to standard to be honest. Boring and I would be worried about your position

Filip: At first sight this might be a bit too simple, but the details of this dress are so nice. The yellow splash of color really works well, had it been any more yellow it wouldn't have had the same effect. You've managed to use many details and items and incorporate them into a simple dress
which does not at all look overdesigned, which I applaud. The connection to the bird should have been stronger, but I was looking for versatility this week and you've definitely showed it so far.

Alex:  This is really really really really really really really really really really really really ...ugly. It does not give me Toucan in any way shape or form. You look like a bee. You used black hair when half your outfit is black, you committed heel colour sin by matching the white with them, and I hate the makeup. I think you tried so I do actually have to acknowledge that and I do think I should recognise that and say try harder next time

CUPCAKE

Hints.png

Filip: Hints wore this last week with red details and got eliminated (and threw a huge tantrum later, even threatening me). I don't think it's awful, but it's definitely not good. The black heels makes your model look shorter considering the particular shape of the skirt. The dress itself is just not that pleasing to look at, it reminds me of an old, cheap rug.  On top of that, this is a case of the dress wearing you rather than the other way around.  Sorry Cupcake, I know you can do much better than this. You played it safe this week and you crashed.

Alex:  This to me lacks the unique fashion take that the challenge was asking for. You definitely have a good eye for what works but this challenge needed an artistic vision that is completely missing from this. You went like "oh raven? black and feather girl. black and feather". Don't get me wrong it's not bad to look at but for this challenge it's an extremely weak look. It's just boring and shows limited creativity.

cinthia

Filip: Powerful, extravagant, avant garde. I am in love with this piece of art. This dress could've been in blue or purple becuase you capture the essence of the flamingo with the shape and the textures. The headpiece is unusual and even a bit eerie, but it  really gives this look a sharp edge and that contrast against the beautiful pink textures is striking. The most obvious and used outfit this week is the feathered cowl, you utilized it in a completely different way. Excellent job this week Cinthia.

Alex:  Oh bitch this is my winner. PROFESSIONAL! periodt. This is so inspired and I definitely read flamingo from it while it still manages to be a fashion forward outfit and present as an outfit rather than a bird costume. Oh it's just great. The silhouette is so unique with the black around the head and the layering and texturing is fabulous. No one else presented a piece like this this week. WORK.

Filip:  Looking at it next to the parrot, you got one of the strongest connections to the bird. The skirt is amazing, you've managed to merge the top with an actual skirt to make it look likean even longer skirt with a belt thats not actually a belt, magnificent. The choice ofnude heels works 9 out of 10 times, this is not one of those cases, it makes it slightly old-looking. I dislike most of the top, the orange details peeping out are interesting, but I abhor when people use that jacket without doing something really unusual and creative with it.  A decent look from you Raesia, don't overthink it next week.

Alex:  Loveeeee! Gorgeous lady you are serving me native American parrot realness. I think you look one of the best next to your bird this week. You captured the perfect essence of the bird and made it fashion. I love the detail and colour packing in this. Hard to pull off and you did it. Styling on point too with the accessories, hair and makeup. Clean and sophisticated. Really rate this one

rhenny ... henny

Filip:  This is an outfit with some refreshing comedy to it, and I'm not saying that to be mean.  You stressed and struggled this week and it shows on your design. The red ombre bottom is interesting, but we are getting too little of it. To merge your hair with the necklace and the eye-piece is strange and funny, I want you to think about amping up the styling next week and not make such a mistake again, that is suitable for Cozzie Change and not in this context. I think the jacket looks nice and that the two blue parts are one of the few redeemign qualities of this outfit. Don't overthink it next week Rhenny, trust your gut instinct like you did week 1.

Alex:  Listen spaghetti head, where do you think you are? I'm just kidding I love it. I love this actually quite a lot. it's fairly iconic and it may be the serve. The hair/eye/chest construction is fantastic and exciting. It is giving me pirate meets synthetics. The fun ends at the black jacket but it can be forgiven for having a very bold and unique take on the task. You rock just work on your polish because this is lacking in fashion design. Great colour work though - the red is perfect

Filip:  Very Madonna ''Die Another Day'', which is one of my favorite music videos. You didn't go overboard with the dark colors this week and I think that was a smart choice, since it doesn't take much black to match the raven well. The choice of just having a tiny piece of gold to give it a bit of color is brilliant move since it is often what a black and white look needs, and your attraction to the metallic chain is apparent in this outfit. The raven is majestic, a bit cold and statuesque: you managed to portray all of those traits with your design. You managed to give a good look despite all your worrying and overthinking this week, trust your gut instinct next time,

Alex:  I love it. Simple but elegant and has something to say. Another look that has perfected the inspiration from the bird and yet managed to steer clear of looking borrowed and costumey. I think the hair and makeup really tie this look together. I can see this being shot in a castle setting on the battlements. Love the angles and lines to it. Simple but strong work aesthetically

Filip:  This look has me conflicted. On one hand I think you look a bit much like a marshmallow, on the other hand I adore the print you've created in the middle and how pleasing to the eye the neon hair is with the pink colors you've incorporated. Overall this silhouette is nothing new and I do wish you had done something a bit more unexpected, but I won't fault you in
any way this week since this is a fun and chic look. Sadly the flamingo does outshine you.

Alex:  Piggy pig. you pig. I like this! the neon blue hair takes it higher higher higher and higher bring me that higher love. HOWEVER, it is not revolutionary like the girls were in 18th century France therefore I am bored. You should be safe but try harder next time to give more of an intelligent take. I do like the long legs

Filip:  Wish this didn't have blue hair, but that's a minor problem. I am impressed by how you took such a simple skirt and made it voluminous. Your approach to such a colorful bird is highly tasteful, and the blue top is gorgeous, it almost looks like it's shimmering.  I think that orange, which is a bit hard to digest, was a bit more limited. I would have loved to see some blue or white shoes with this.  Gorgeous dress, well done Uhu.

Alex:  I mean this is very good! It's kind of funny cause you look like you're wearing your beard upside down. I have to say it's all right. The colour work is superb, like the best of the week. Really gorgeous to look at and I enjoy the shapes you made with the walking dress pose and the corset over the orange upper half. The texture of that orange is gorg and I just love this. One of the best runway fashion looks of the week and reads parrot perfectly. It's also edited well. If this won it would deserve it

Filip:  You wore this dress last week, even though you gave it many new details this week. Please put more time and focus on styling next week, this really could've used some modern hair. I adore the purple heels against that blue metallic  hemline, and the collar is one of my favorite details this week. Credit where it's due, you connected well with the bird and didn't let it outshine you, you also gave an interesting design, even though it has flaws. I dont find the red-brown that tasteful, the blue/silver details are gorgeous though.  Next week you must switch up your silhouette and make it far more modern.

Alex:  FAB! For me this is another top look this week god damn it's lovely. Everything is styled perfectly - the hair, white lining, introduction of crimson colour into it and the slightly tatty appearance of the jacket. It's right up my alley and I'm not sure that's a safe place to be sweetie honestly a lot of people go in there and don't come back out

Congratulations to Cinthiaaaaaaaaa for being the winner this week. Your dress was breathtaking, unique and represented the extravagance and the statuesque feeling of a flamingo. Well done to .Uhu and gnge for making it to the top 3, carry on like this and you will both be hard to beat. Unfortunately, after a decision based on gut feeling, Cupcake will not make it further in this competition. You are a future triple threat, but it just wasn't meant to be this time. Thank you for staying true to who you are in this short journey of yours.

Task 3 is posted, good luck my top 12.
