TASK 3 BE-A-ZENFELD

My 12 monsters! Welcome to the third panel of LidlTerm season 1. We are incredibly fortunate to have a guest judge for this panel, vice president of Habbo and legendary designer Corlay. As usual the UK's most powerful, rich, evil gay man Alex is here.

The task was to create avant-garde, origami style outfits inspired by the Swedish designer Bea Szenfeld. Tonight, two designers will be eliminated because that's what my daily horoscope told me to do.

This design takes me places, it reminds me off the waterfalls and streams found in northern Scandinavia. I believe you really looked at Bea’s designs and reflected upon how you could take it furthter rather than designing something similar to what she’s already made. This is really a symphony between the designer you are and the aesthetic of Bea S. The brown socks work in an unexpected way, complimenting the blue colors, and the textures of the skirt and the jacket match perfectly. My favorite aspect of this is the fact that you added a little bit of purple on the top to get that ombre effect. I love this, mwah! ❤️

In terms of colour palette, this is one of the more daring designs we’ve seen this week. I happen to think it sabotaged the possibility of you winning this task. It’s drawing attention from some of the fantastic layering you’ve done to the bottom of the design. The white fabrics and textures are way more appropriate and appealing than what i’m seeing in the top half.

ALEX'S CRITIQUES

Very stunning and very very hot. Lovely colour work. professional design work and interesting shape and silhouette. Really feels like being in the hands of a pro looking at this. The colours really are just outstanding and such a strength of yours. I think using the clean lines of the shirt with the jagged textures overlayed is genius and it's definitely a top look of the week. Very good work, nothing to critique on this at all

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

This is just ok, I can't say I like much about this, besides you using a bag to extend your dress, giving the design more fabric and a slightly more unusual silhouette in a good way. I am sick and tired of that princess top and that feathered cowl is starting to bore me to tears: you need to do something else with it if it's going to be succesful. having it be the statement of the outfit is just not enough at this point. I appreciate the beautiful blue color, but my eyes go like ping pong balls looking at your outfit, they never really settle at an aspect I like.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

The asymmetry that you incorporated into the bottom half of the design really elevates the overall composition. The use of the blue worked in your favour. Not only did it make you stand out, it reduced some of the shadows between your layering and softened your design. Good work.

ALEX'S CRITIQUES

FUCKING STUNNING. This is absolutely gorgeous. The colour itself is making me like wet myself over how pretty it is. You married it with the creams underneath so perfectly and the white heel and then the jet black hair on top shifting focus to the textures and detail of the garment. These items have been used so much this week and this is hands down my favourite use of them. The asymmetry, the silhouette, the colour work and styling are all spot on. This look is very special to me and I think even without being white can be easily identified as belonging to this challenge

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

The structuring of this outfit is mostly cliché, although the middle has some intriguing textures and I think the earrings with the hair were the best choice you made this week, it’s that weird sci-fi elegant (Star Wars) aesthetic almost. What puts your design dangerously near elimination is that there is just no joy or spark in this gown, no energy or comedy to it, which Bea Szensfeld is known for.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

The combination of layering is disjointed and unappealing. I wish you had incorporated more volume or perhaps an aspect that was more experimental. The overall design falls flat in more than one regard. I hope you’re able to hone in on your inspiration and focus on what the task asks of you next time. Thanks.

ALEX'S CRITIQUES

This is qwhite bad sweaty I won't lie to you. The fact you used a backward facing look and failed makes it even worse. The one thing you did well is dive into the challenge head first. I definitely see you attempted what you were asked but absolutely did not execute it in any way shape or form. I don't like anything about the look itself. The items don't do anything together it just looks a mess. And it's all one dull tone too. If you survive remember to inject your unique perspective into the next challenge

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

The nude illusion works to 80%, there aren't any black lines interrupting it, but it’s just the way it’s patterned that differs from the legs. That’s not really a problem though, your design is a beautiful mess, it might look easy to create such good looking structured chaos but it’s not. This is drama, you brought the volume and the fun to this challenge and I applaud that. I know the PR-community hated the earbuds but I think they give this look a modern edge, AirPods is one of the hottest accessories right now and by incorporating earbuds you gave this look the slightly comedic edge which Bea gives her designs.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

The cluttered combination of textures are a nice play on the origami aspects originally worked into some of Bea’s designs. The chains were a great addition as they create dynamic folds that fit this task quite well. Overall I think your ability to layer textures well gives you a leg up at this stage of the competition.

ALEX'S CRITIQUES

Very cool. I love the texture you created here and the asymmetrical shape of the gown and the pose to create part of the look. Very stun, very innovative. You are a creative soul and love the hair, makeup and skin tone against the white. Improvements could be to create more colour depth than just one tone and while I see why you used them - the earphones don't work

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

The more I look at this outfit, the more it falls apart. The beige is oddly refreshing in this challenge, however I really wanted to see crazy layers and textures this week and you went for semi-minimalism and it didn’t pay off this time. I appreciate the collar, however I just don’t find this exciting at all, it actually reminds me of a sad, rainy day, and it’s just too much beige without you achieving any effect. Sorry Taylor, it was a cool idea you had though

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

The layering and structuring techniques asked of you this week are absent in this design. It’s hard to relate the design you provided us, to the task given. The decision to place a jacket with no texture over the majority of the design was precarious. I my opinion it didn’t work in your favour. Thanks.

Unapologetic Tom of Finland marshmallow couture. Austin, every week you’ve given interesting looks and that I am grateful for. The headpiece and the silver hemline are the standouts in this outfit, I just wish that there was something a bit more going on here, this really was the time to amp up the volume and go crazy with layers and textures, I feel like you only took it halfway there. However, I can see your vision and you executed it well.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

Though the construction is sought to be minimal. I recognize some of the thought woven into the items you chose to incorporate into the design. The distinct ridges the vest adds to the texture of the overall composition is genius. It’s a great take on the the layered folds Bea works with in his designs. Clean silhouette, glaring inspiration and great execution. Well done.

alex'S CRITIQUES

Alright condom legs, ur a fat blob and well done! I love it. very iconic and great unique silhouette. It's just so strange and good but doesn't feel cheap or lacking effort. You addressed the challenge head on and really applied yourself. Such a gigantic risk to take with this and it has really paid off, probably the coolest look of the week. Exciting to have you in the competition. marshmallow head get off the stage

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

The silhouette takes me back 100 years and the accessories right back to the present. You created a layered dress with tasteful details and no overdesigning, which has been your problem. The brown is however distasteful, without the gloves this would’ve been a bit better. Don’t add items for the sake of more is better, because it’s not. The robotic headpiece is goofy and the neck piece adds sophiatication. It’s interesting to see you growing, Goofyzik.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

Though this design hits some of the technical aspects asked of you this week. It’s lacking in just about everything else. The only thing playful and experimental about this would be the bow. I’m uncertain if perhaps the avant garde aspect of this task frightened you. Don’t be afraid to take a risk, it’s a tougher pill to swallow when you go home on a boring design compared to something a bit more daring. Take those risks.

alex'S CRITIQUES

Did you wipe your arse as inspiration for this look? You look like a piece of shitty toilet paper. I don't really like the look, I think it's fairly cheap and uninteresting and the items don't really work together to form a cohesive look. There's definitely interesting elements and you took a risk trying to execute something like this so well done for that

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

This is a beautiful, minimalistic dress which reminds me of the romance literature era, mostly due to the flowers and it’s earthy colors. You asked for advice and I gave you none because you had such a defined vision and you executed it with no flaws to it really, the problem is that the task was to show what you can do by experimenting with layers, structures and angles, I’m not sure if you even reached the bare mimimum for the criteria. You’re not in the bottom this week because you had a strong vision and you executed it well.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

This is an interesting take on this task. On one hand I value the importance of the fabrics you chose on the bottom half of the design. They work harmoniously in creating a unique silhouette. I’m confused by the top of the design. The graphic stands out far too much, taking away from some of the subtle details. Overall I really enjoy this design. I just wish you related it a bit more to the task.

alex'S CRITIQUES

girl what? Sometimes minimalism can turn into delusion. This is not a long-term ready fashion look. You put on 3 items that just sit next to each other. There's like....no design here. Hate it

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

When you first handed this in I liked it, then I hated it, now I'm somewhere in the middle. I think the pink earring and the purple shoes are the best aspects of this, they really please the eye in your design which is a sea of white and gray textures. I enjoy how the bag merges with the pants and the fact that you succesfully pulled off a walking-look. What bothers me is that big scarf, I just can't stop looking at it and I find it a bit ugly.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

I’m fascinated by the pose and movement the design possesses in the process. The twists and turns that you were able to bring to life really show how dynamic you are as a designer. The variety of hues are easy to digest and highlights the intricate layering you’ve packed into this creation. Good week for you.

alex'S CRITIQUES

On first glance I think it's great but then I look closer and realise how messy and obnoxious the design is. You just seemed to throw any and every fabric on to create the illusion that you're doing something. You pile it on to make up for the fact you are missing something which isn't encouraging. I love the pose, always appreciate a movement look and I think it has an aesthetic to it that is really cool. So it's not the worst at all but way way way way way too much just thrown on. I would suggest going for a minimalist statement piece next week that shows you can really do this

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

Is this the one submission furthest away from something Bea has designed? Yes. Is this outfit a perfect collaboration between Bea and you as a designer? Also yes! Like you said, you didn’t make an avant garde outfit, this might even be the most ready-to-wear design from the bunch, but that is actually smart in a way. You didn’t design some boring cheap dress, somehow you managed to make a gray dress look flirty and fun. I am in love with the textures, how you didn’t overdesign this and how you made every correct style choice. This is so fabulous, well done Rhenny!!!

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

I would normally find issues with the proportions of this design. However, this fits the style you were inspired by. Often you see Bea work with fabrics that are stout and glaring. This top-heavy design plays well with that theme. I appreciate the layering you added and enjoy the overall configuration.

alex's CRITIQUES

Wow! Next to everyone else you definitely stand out for your balls with the colour choices. The design itself, while not groundbreaking, is very sweet and well done. I don't think it's enough to come anywhere near the top though so I would consider stepping up your design risks going forward if you want to make it far. You edited this very well though and it's kind of sleek and sexy. Perfect wig.

FILIP'S CRITIQUES

So glad you scrapped the look you first submitted, which felt disjointed and overdesigned without much pay-off. Even though the textures are superb and it’s a cute dress which would probably anyone, I’d say this outfit is a tad predictable and unimaginative. The sand color is by far the most interesting aspect of this. It’s a C+, I suspect you played it safe this week. There is just little joy to this look, I think why your two previous looks were so succesful was because they conveyed playfulness and your good eye for mixing patterns.

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

The feathered effect you used through the entirety of this design works wonders for this task. Typically combining the same pattern through a design gets tiresome. I find it solidified your work ethic and shows the relation to your thought process and task. This is a complete outfit. Well done.

alex'S CRITIQUES

this is very cool you look like an ice cold paper mache BITCH. I love the hair and makeup but actually think you could have gone for a more vibrant heel colour here. Either way nice detail work and fantastic shape and attitude to it but let's be real it's another stack-feathery-items look. Stay unique next time

Glorious Avant Garde. Uplifting. The way you positioned a sleek fabric with the texturized jacket and scarf is brilliant, the eyes really go on a journey when one looks at this from top to bottom. I have never seen the mermaid skirt used in such a mesmerizing way before, you gave it a complete new meaning, as if there is something overflowing from the gown The different shades of blue really compliments your design, I think the earring is a bit overkill. Last week you nearly went home, this week you're in the top

FIONA'S CRITIQUES

The flow of this design feels jaded. The layering components are thrown together in an attempt to follow the guidelines of the task. We’ve seen this combination before. A tired design that barely follows the prompts this task asked of you. Thanks.

alex'S CRITIQUES

Okayyyyyy! This one right here! I am so so impressed. What a stunning couture piece honestly. Not only does it execute the challenge perfectly but it also looks like a themed runway piece from a ocean inspired Atlantis elven fantasy line. This is so my thing, you look beautiful. And made perfect choices with the hair and makeup. Easily in my top 2 of the week. The only thing I will say is this better be the last time we see that fucking wizard costume

I know some might not agree but I'm going to go with my gut feeling on this one. Condragulations Rhenny, your unexpected and risky approach paid off this week and that makes you the winner of the Bea Szenfeld-challenge. Well done to Netals and .Uhu for rising to the top with two gorgeous designs.

Vyia and -AuburnSunset, I'm afraid your time is up on season 1. It breaks my heart to send you both home, you've both brought two unique point-of-views to this competition and I think you two are some of the best Habbo has to offer. Thank you for this journey!
