TASK 1 HONEY I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE MEETING, I HAVE A BATH SCHEDULED!

Welcome to the first panel of the second season of LidlTerm!

Last year we saw Cinthia win the first season with her stunning collection and this year we are about to take on a new fashion adventure! Creating Season 2 felt like such a distant wish just a couple of months ago and it makes me so happy to have it realized, bigger and better than before, thanks to the contestants.

The first task involved creating an outfit inspired by bathbombs, in which the contestants were asked to create colorful, fun and vibrant designs that represented the essence of a bathbomb.

.UHU

J’adore! This is brilliant Uhu! First of all, the orange-red ombre effect on the side of your model is BRILLIANT and the blue, more subtle ombre effect is also fantastic. Instead of making the top’s colors exactly match the pants you made a brilliant move. The longer I look at it the more I love it. The tree sticker/tattoo has become a PR-cliché but here you apply it in a highly subtle yet inventive way. The blue color of the scarf merging into the belt feels rich and reminds me of dramatic waves on an ocean. Having the shoes be white to balance the outfits color scheme was necessary and I’m glad you realized that. The tiny, green trim on the pants helps give your design a playful undertone and the styling with the silver-blonde hair is complimentary to the shoes. A+

This was a conceptual task with a commercial undertone to it and I think your outfit is the most commercial one, had I been in charge of creating a commercial for Lush products I would have chosen this outfit. That’s because at first glance the outfit hits you effectively with the colors and the sugary cotton-candy feeling, hence choosing a candy-themed bathbomb did you well. As you got 10/10 on the commercial aspect, this outfit is sadly not as conceptual or original. It’s a cute dress that will always look good, but we have seen this layering many times and you didn’t take any risks, it’s all very safe. I must also say that I am not a fan of the matchy-matchy approach when it comes to shoes, having them be in a muted pastel purple or yellow would’ve done wonders. The silver-white hair is really refreshing and does so much to prevent this outfit from being sickeningly sweet. Good work but I’ve seen you done amazing designs and you need to dig deeper moving forward.

raesia

This submission makes me sad. The outfit is interesting and the collar effect you created with the scarf is excellent. That Indian dress has been overused in several longterms already and yet you found a new, great way to use it by having it correspond with the earrings. What pisses me off is that you got great potential and enough talent to excell in this longterm but you lack the energy and the engagement to succeed. When you submitted this you told me you didn't really know what a bathbomb was but you saw one on TikTok, and then you give me this depressing gray outfit when the criteria was that the outfit should be colorful and fun. You couldn't take 30 seconds to Google what a bathbomb is, or a minute to think about what the task was about?  I'm sure someone might argue that there could be a dark goth bathbomb but I'm just not buying this as being bathbomb inspired, you look like the water in a bath after someone really dirty washed themselves in it.

snawl

This outfit tells us two things about you as a designer: you’re great at using colors and you really know how to accessorize an outfit to elevate it. There is a cheerful and uplifting 80’s vibe to your outfit which makes the contrast of the model’s face hilarious. You used a pre-colored item like a couple of others, but unlike them you utilized other items and colors to create something new.  The simple silhouette helps balance out the busy middle section of the outfit and I adore the earrings that match the suspenders. You have a history of being smart about shoe choices and the fact that you decided to have the pastel-green heels only match one sleeve is so fucking fabulous. Not to be a bitch about it, but this outfit is a bit similar to something you did in trainwreck-term (click for reference) and I am going to personally challenge you for next task, that you take a bigger risk with your silhouette.

Razzing

supa.png
razzing.png

You definitely managed to deliver an outfit with volume and I am a sucker for volumeous designs, though you must keep in mind for future tasks to have your model wear the clothes and not the other way around like in this case. I like to think of this outfit as fabric floating in water, there is a strange yet soothing energy to your outfit, almost as if the many layers of fabric are there to take care of the person wearing them. I believe that trying to portray the bottom of your outfit as sea-related was smart, the mermaid skirt and the shoes create an illusion of seafoam. I am not a big fan of the overall color palette; I think the red against the pink is a decent color combination but I don’t think it’s the most effective or striking one. There is a commercial undertone to this task: the reason that Lush creates bathbombs with colors that are not close to each other yet compliments each other, blue and pink for example, is because such a pairing is really pleasing to the eye. This is a good first outfit Razzing, the styling with the hair and the accessories are my favorite aspects and it keeps your submission fresh and current.

The sweater is pleasing to look at and it does the job of creating the illusion of a bathbomb. However, I don’t think that relying on a finished, non-colorable item in this way represents your full potential. This was your chance to play with colors and come up with a kick-ass color palette and you didn’t do that. If you had altered or experimented with the sweater to have it appear in a new way we haven’t seen before then it would’ve been a different case. The best part of this outfit is the aspect in which you actually did construct something, the white-toga top which is really fabulous and I would love to see it applied on other outfits. I’m not a fan of combining those shoes with your outfit, they’re a bit clunky while your design has a flowy quality to it so I believe it required a lighter shoe. I adore the accessorizing with the earring and the veil which is usually a tricky item to use.

persiancat

This is an adorable outfit and your charm as a designer definitely shines through. The color palette is also quite a nice one even though I think it desperately needs some contrasting colors, perhaps yellow. This outfit is sadly not up to par with everything else presented this week, it’s not developed enough, and the level of technical skills presented here is next to none. The weird sci-fi accessory is such an eye-sore and it does not do your wholesome spa-outfit justice. To get better at this game you must experiment more and dare to take risks, this looks like something I’d see in a Project Runway maybe 12 years ago.

MOTORMICKEYNEW

supa.png
motormickeyNEW (1).png

This design is so flowy, it reminds me of blissful waves hitting against a shore. The weakness that this design has is that it’s all a bit blue as the task asked for a colors in plural. The pop of yellow does wonders for it and had you gone with yellow or even purple earrings then it would’ve been perfect, I am still in love with this dress though and I just can’t take my eyes off it. It was a good decision to have the arms be bare so that your model isn’t entirely swallowed by the dominating print you constructed. It’s been a loooong time since I was excited by the use of that scarf and this week you managed to do that. Your design is refreshing, modern, soothing and I am amazed at how well the graphics you created flows through your outfit almost seamlessly. This is not a design that screams ‘’bathbomb’’ but it is task appropriate and it does convey the feeling of having a relaxing bath after a long day, well done!

RUPAULSOTHERWIG

First of all, this is Project Runway and not RPDR. The devil eyes and the thorny flowers on your head seriously need to go. Moving forward you must focus on creating fashion rather than costumes. Second, all contestants have the right to have a Tim Gunn-talk with me for some advice and you didn’t take it, which you really needed. You chose a blood inspired bathbomb, the color palette is not exciting but the overall outfit with the turban is quite cool. The boots go along with the dress and the coat surprisingly well and gives this outfit a refreshing rock-vibe and you manage to stand out this week for both good and bad reasons. There are a lot of different textures which I love, besides the RPDR-details there is a lot to look at and I quite like it. You had such low self-confidence this week and had you just believed in yourself and thought a bit more about the task you would’ve been ranked higher. Next week is your chance to show that you really got what it takes to compete in fashion, please believe in yourself because this week you showed great potential and room for growth.

Combining motion with the wavy print of the pants was a brilliant move, the pants along with the sleeve orange sleeve and the shoes are gorgeous to look at. I especially admire that you chose two different shades of purple for the shoes to add some nuance to your design. There is a magical, mystical and relaxing feeling to the bottom of this outfit. I am honestly not a big fan of the top, I just want to rip the belt off and I appreciate what you were trying to do with the necklace and the tattoo but it just doesn’t work for me. There are accessories that do work however, the earring and the nose-ring gives this look a more avant garde feeling to it which was much needed. I wish the top matched the brilliant bottom, perhaps the top is all a bit too purple and could’ve used some tones of blue or even yellow. Overall this is a look that does a great job at portraying the essence of a bathbomb.

gnge

You are quite an unpredictable designer and once again you have surprised me. I wasn’t expecting anyone to go for a sporty streetwear approach and you took that risk and it paid off. It is quite brilliant to have the jumper represent vibrating water and then the middle part of the outfit appears to be a bathbomb that is running down over your pants. The more I look at this design the more amazed I am at how smart and creative this design is. This was a commercial yet conceptual task and you really did hone in on the commercial aspect as you designed something that could easily be found in a department store and that is yet editorial. Overall this is fantastic and I struggle to find anything I would change, well done!

The styling with the hair, the accessories and the skirt gives this a fun 60’s vibe which I appreciate. I also believe that choosing a dark blue lipstick was a great choice against all the other pastels. Having the buttons (an accessory I usually dislike) match the earrings is something I haven’t seen before and a great detail. The fundamental problem with your design is that it’s just not interesting and the structure underneath the cute details has been done to death, it’s nearly insulting. This is longterm, 500 coins is on the line and this is just not good enough. A super-minimalistic design which had made the details shine would’ve been so much better. I must say though that this is a big improvement compared to LidlTerm S1.

antheia-ceres

supa.png
antheiai-ceres2.png

Without a doubt one of the most stylish and polished submissions this week, this is really fabulous Antheia. Your design emits a botanical feeling and the shirt looks like a lightgreen bathbomb dissolving in water, this was a great time to utilize that print. The design is very top-heavy so the fact that you made it into a short dress and display a lot of bare legs was required to prevent your model from being swallowed by the outfit, for example with a long skirt. I'm impressed by how this outfit is equally commercial and conceptual, you extended the green tattoo with the left line of the glove and the effect is really cool, it looks like a big green splash or liquid in the air. Moving forward it will benefit you greatly to trust your instincts like you've done in this case.

Your inspiration was a coconut-crystal-themed bathbomb with a blue core and seeing it I understood your outfit better. Is this a chic, modern outfit? Absolutely. Is it task-appropriate and conceptual? Not really. There is an overwhelming amount of white and I specifically asked the whole cast to create a colorful outfit with a fun energy to it, this isn’t that colorful and it definitely does not have a fun energy to it, you rather look like a canvas someone splatted blue paint on. The gray heels make the whole thing even more drab. The outfit clearly represents that you got the technical skills and the eye for styling that is necessary to succeed in this longterm but what you must work on is to really reflect on what the task asks from you and how you’re gonna stand out. This week is filled with colorful and vibrant outfits and yours pale in comparison. Make next week your redemption!

This one is incredibly difficult to judge. This outfit is slightly minimalistic and in a refreshing way you took an urban streetwear approach. It’s incredibly commercial and it has a fun sense to it which makes it task appropriate, however it lacks in conceptuality and oomph. As a designer one must find a tough balance in order to successfully create a simplistic design and I don’t think you reached all the way. The gold chain is almost always tacky and difficult to use but in this case it’s actually suitable and charming, probably because it makes sense when I compare it to a bathbomb you were inspired by. I adore the fuzzy, texturized middle part but your design makes me question your level of ambition and whether this is you trying to make the most out of as little as possible. Not eliminating you was a last-minute decision, the only reason you’re not getting eliminated this week is because you have intrigued me and I want to see more.

Aiti

supa.png

A person who never played Habbo wouldn’t have thought that was a smiley-face and you used it fabulously. I adore the neon turquoise bra and wish you had developed your outfit in that direction, and you didn’t. The Scottish cape is just kind of there and it looks mopey, like a wrinkly t-shirt found on the floor in a teenager's room. Had you done something with the cape like motormickeyNEW then I would’ve been happy, I just want to rip it off and look at the interesting things going on behind it. This outfit is just fine. I think your biggest problem is that you have yet to figure out what defines you as a designer. Unlike several other designers, I can’t really pinpoint what is your style. If you’re going to win this season you must reflect on what your identity is as a designer because this outfit gets lost in the crowd of the others. I know you are trying though and deep down I know you got the talent to go all the way.

I could see your outfit on an artist like Zara Larsson or Dua Lipa in a music video with the song title ''Bathbomb'', you've definitely managed to design a pop-inspired, graphical look that feels very 2021. Having the belt extend the skirt was a brilliant move as it creates several illusions in your design, such as having the skirt be partly pink and having a string or something hang from it. I love the baby-yellow heels and I know that you have become a designer that is now an expert at accessorizing. My only negative critique is that your design feels a bit too bulky and like the clothes are wearing the model, perhaps removing the gloves would've helped. Looking forward to more interesting work from you Herby!

This gown really hits you with a bang, a complete showstopper. There is a feeling of hope, drama and romance to your design and you’ve pushed the envelope here: it’s editorial, avant garde and yet formal which is a difficult combination to achieve. You added a tiny, sneaky yellow stroke which is effective as it leaves the viewer wanting more of it. Some people might argue that the nude illusion isn’t super-effective but in my eyes it works, it appears as a really transparent dark mesh. I would’ve liked to see a more effective earring, perhaps a yellow or silver-gray one. Your design spoils us with layers, fabric and volume without having the model be swallowed. It looks like your model is spinning around and the garment is in motion, the low sleeve and the iridescent parts are some of my favorite details this week.

Deciding on a winner from the top 3 was very difficult. Congratulations alydaman, you are the winner of the first task of LidlTerm season 2. Your inventive, avant garde gown is my favorite for this task. Well done to .Uhu and motormickeyNEW for making it to the top 3 in an amazing line-up.

Persiancat, Raesia and Loser-for-life - I am sorry to say that the three of you have been eliminated. The competition is incredibly tough this season and I don't think the three of you are ready just yet to make it to the final. Thank you so much for contributing and taking part in LidlTerm season 2, I am a fan of the three of you.
