TASK 4 MAKE-UP OR BREAK UP

Welcome to the fourth panel of LidlTerm S2!

For this task, the designers collaborated with me! I created five custom make-up designs and assigned each designer one. The designers were asked to create an outfit that would match and compliment the make-up.

I feel like I say this every week but it bears repeating: this was an insanely good panel to judge because of the submissions and if you got a low ranking this week, that does not reflect on your efforts or the quality of your outfit. At this point, the level of talent and drive is so even that it’s near impossible to predict the final 3.

Let's see what the designers came up with!

Last week I celebrated a return to the old Kaytlin and I was crossing my fingers it wasn't just a fluke and that you would keep up the good work - and you did! I believe it was a great choice to keep so much blue close to the face as it compliments the purple make-up and keeps it distinct. The addition of bronze is a bit unexpected but I think it's in line with your personality: to me, Kaytlin is a designer who likes to design outfits that are slightly unapologetic and cocky and there is a bit of an attitude to this design in a good way. There isn't that much to say about this design because it's not  revolutionary, it's rather a design that is done really well and in which the color choices are superb.

First of all the shoes are gorgeous and they are my favorite this week. The most interesting aspect about your design is the mixture of textures that creates an interesting contrast. You've got the blue, softer streaks that represents sensitivity and something a bit sad yet beautiful. There is also the more harder and rougher looking textile of the jacket which kind of resembles a hard shell. Excuse me for giving such abstract critiques, but it's like your model is crying (the make-up) and the feelings (the blue vertical parts) are pouring out of the harder exterior, which is the brown jacket. I am a sucker for tiny details and the tiny parts of gold here and there is the cherry on top. You managed to create an avant garde skirt by using nude illusion which confuses the viewer at first, but it becomes an ''aha!'' moment because it's like you are clear about using nude illusion fabric while you are also sneaky about it. This is your best design so far!

You took the three most over-used and scolded items there are in PR: the skirt, the belt and the scarf - and created a new rendition out of the three, thanks to the cape. Choosing to have most of the design in maroon is quite unexpected and I'm not entirely sure if it was the best choice, it's a rather decent one. The tones of pink are lovely and there is a lot of texture and layers to your design which is what makes this a good look. To pair the dress with the white and clunky shoes was a really unorthodox move and it unexpectedly works really well, the shoes prevent the design from looking too warm and balances it out, that makes it the best and boldest design choice you made this week. My only complaint is that I wish you had embraced the make-up more and designed something that fully connected with it rather than just partly.

Peter! Designs like this are why hosts like me arrange longterms. Designs like this represent a magical moment that us hosts search for while arranging a season, and we are pleased if we get to feel it even once. The blue tears that merge perfectly into the avant garde earring on the left side, I mean come on, that is too fucking nice. I think the nude illusion combined with the belt is very cheeky and risky, but the belt merges with the top beautifully and the nude illusion serves a purpose here. You managed to make it look like your make-up is seamlessly continuing onto the chest and down your model’s knee. There is a chaotic and melancholic feeling to your outfit, in my eyes your outfit represents mourning and feeling broken. It isn't often a PR-design brings out so much emotion out of me like your design has. Your creation is, without a doubt, one of my favorite Project Runway looks I have ever seen across all longterms and shortterms.

When you first submitted this I thought ''well this isn't Herby's best work but it's really good and he is safe for sure''. Then the other submissions kept coming in and your position became more and more uncertain. The skirt with the different nuances connects to the make-up incredibly well and I adore the white details here and there, they help give the red pieces a greater impact. I really like that you glitched the jacket and presented it in a semi-new way, but the more I look at your design the more I realize that a lot of this design rests on the jacket and that is not good. Your critique last week was that you relied too much on one big object to carry the outfit and you did the same thing again, I would've liked to have seen you create a top through the same process you designed the brilliant skirt. This is in no way a bad outfit, it's pretty great, it's rather that I feel like you stopped designing before you discovered the full potential of the concept.

I paired you up with this make-up because I thought ''Harry is probably gonna make something really fucking cool with this one'' and you didn't disappoint me. Then I realized I gave the purple make-up to the colorblind designer - my mistake - but I'm not sorry because this design makes me so happy. You have constructed something that looks like a racecar-jacket and I am head over heels for it, it looks like your model is wearing the jacket on the shoulders only and the sleeve is just hanging. Speaking of the long sleeve, the neon-yellow print transitioning into black and white stripes is something I've never seen before and this design is maybe the most future-of-fashion I've seen this season. Adding yellow earrings to complinent the purple was a brilliant move and somehow you designed a look full of colors, prints and parts that are begging for my attention and yet it all works in harmony with the make-up, it's a bit of a mystery how. The shoes were rally risky but the risk paid off, they add do the overall fun and energetic aura that your design has. I didn't think I would ever get to see an avant garde racecar design. This look is 10/10 and I want to see this Harry every week!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am so glad I didn't eliminate you and gave you a second chance in week 1. You've had a slow start and you have slowly been submitting better and better outfits. This is an All Stars-worthy cast who are all bringing their A-game so I questioned if you would be able to push yourself enough to keep up with the others this week, and I am delighted to say that you absolutely did. Your dress has it's own identity and it matches the make-up in a way like the two are almost cousins rather than siblings and I think that's great, you maintained your idea of your aesthetic without trying to correlate with mine too much. At first glance I had no idea how you made this and even though I've figured it all out I am still thoroughly impressed. You took two over-used items, the skirt and the belt, and created something new I haven't seen before.Merging the camoflauge top with the Scottish drape resulted in unexpected greatness. I particularly love the silver detail.

Really unexpected. I gave you a make-up design with a lot of earthy tones and some blue and you come up with this colorful vitamin shot look. I think it was a good idea to at least have a clear transition in your design: the pocket strap connects with the make-up well and the earrings were a perfect addition. I'm not of the opinion that you would have had to design something using only the colors of the make-up, I rather think its a bold move to do such a wild interpretation like this. I'm a bit torn because on one hand I fully understand this color story and I appreciate it, on the other hand I don't believe the outfit is connected to the make-up in an ideal way. It's like the make-up and the outfit are friends rather than siblings or cousins. Overall I still find that this is an interesting, androgynous, fresh design that feels very summer 2021. I particularly enjoy how the bag goes so well together with the belt and that there is a tiny nod in the belt to the make-up. The skirt-pants that you've constructed just gets better and better the more I look at it. You took a lot of risks this week: some paid off and some didn't, never stop taking risks in PR Alex!

It's crazy to me how many designs I've seen from you over a couple of longterms and yet each week you show a new side of yourself and you are in a constant state of reinvention, which is really exciting as your talent level remains high. You brought a dystopian design this week that also reminds me a bit of a Pixar or Marvel movie, there is a dark aspect to this outfit but also a playful energy to your design. It is brilliant that you barely touched the neon colors of the make-up (except for on the earrings) and instead utilized colors that correlate and that are more muted, it allows the make-up to shine but you've also incorporated enough interesting details to your design that it doesn't allow itself to be overshadowed by the make-up. The teal heels are absolutely exquisite and I love how you took the wires of the top and created the illusion of a print. There is nothing bad to say about this design, it's futuristic, lively, stylish and inventive. Despite it's many dark elements, your outfit still puts one in a good mood, perhaps because your design conveys a sense of adventure.

When you cursed the make-up I handed you and vocalized how much you struggled I just smiled. Feeling frustrated and challenged by a task is part of the beauty of PR, sometimes it results in a designer stumbling and sometimes the result is that the designer fights back with a roar, you did the latter Brad. I have never seen this side of you as a designer and I'm very happy you showed it to us because this design is really chic and it also looks like something I haven't seen in a very long time which makes it fresh. This outfit plays with elegance and sexiness, I rarely see corsets in PR and it's even more unusual to see one this unique and well done, you used about 4 items to create it and it looks both simple yet intricate which is impressive. This design reminds me a little bit of Dita von Teese even. You took your love for gore/blood and mixed it with one of your greatest strenghts, your styling abilities, and it resulted in greatness. I especially like how the headpiece secures the status of this look as an interesting one and that you slightly altered the headpiece to make it a bit more special.

Congratulations Razzing, you are the winner of this week's task. You showed us all the magic that can be unleashed through Project Runway and I am in love with your design, you couldn't have done a better job. A complete homerun. Well done to .Uhu and icearbr for making it to the top 3 in the most competitive and high-quality panel that I have ever had the pleasure to judge. When it comes to quality of the submissions this week, there was not a big gap between 2nd place and 10th place this week so no matter what ranking you got I think you should be proud of yourself. I've waited eagerly to do this task and I had high hopes and yet my high expectations were exceeded.

HerbyMainsted, my friend, I am deeply sorry to say that you have been eliminated from LidlTerm season 2. Your outfit was great and I wanted to make this a non-elimination, but I figured that the level of talent in this season is so high that I will want to make every week a non-elimination. At this point, I will be forced to ''kill my darlings'' as a host week after week. You are a winner and an amazing designer Herby and most importantly you have a heart of gold, you just got a bit unlucky this week. You deserve to continue competing this season, unfortunately I have to eliminate someone and I just happened to rank your outfit as #10. Thank you for being you!
