TASK 5 MUSIC VIDEOS LIVE
.png)

Welcome to the fifth panel of LidlTerm S2!
For this task, the designers were asked to create an outfit inspired by live performances - specifically 4 favorites of mine from the Eurovision Song Contest. The music competition has been going on since 1956 and with its annual 180-200 million viewers, Eurovision Song Contest is the biggest music event in the world. Many live performances at big music events are today more or less about creating a performance that looks like a music video is being played out in front of the viewer. Something that separates many music videos from live performances is that several live performances have a certain energy and spark to them that can't always be captured in the studio version of a song. That is because in a live performance, the performers feed off the crowd's energy and I want us to explore that further.
If you, as a reader, can't watch the videos because of geo-blocking, then please use this link to access the 4 videos!

Switzerland 2019 - Luca Hänni - She Got Me

I felt a bit sorry for you as I announced this task because I knew it would be near impossible for you to top or match the masterpiece you created last week. Is this outfit as good? No. Is it a high-quality outfit which manages to compete with the other looks this week? Hell yes. She Got Me felt like the perfect choice for you and I was right. You were clearly inspired by the graphical elements and the video showcases a cascade of red, glitchy graphics and surprisingly you represent that through an element (the red in the middle) that is minimalistic yet surprisingly blunt and effective. I especially love the glitchy jacket you've created, it feels very Peter but the inspiration from the video is also very clear without it being too literal. I believe you have a lot of love for creating dramatic designs and sometimes it goes overboard and into drag queen territory but with this outfit it shows that you've found that perfect balance. It took me a long time to figure out how you achieved that texture on the skirt and when I realized I was even more impressed.

The choice of She Got Me was quite unexpected for you, as I wouldn't have thought it was the one best suited for you, but you're always one to be unpredictable and challenge yourself and I admire that. This design is great in theory and it has tons of potential but I'm afraid it falls flat. You've incorporated several details such as the tattoo, the backpack-straps and the glitchy jacket but none of them really work together or on their own, it's like I'm looking at your work process through this design and it looks a bit frustrated and confused. This is by no means a bad outfit, I actually do like it. The skirt looks gorgeous in movement and I love that you chose a darker red for the shoes/socks to give your design some depth. Picking white shoes was really smart because it prevents the design from being overwhelmingly warm. You did the glitchy, chaotic graphics and the overall energy from She Got Me justice, I just believe this isn't your best work and that it lacks that innovation and confidence your other looks from task 1-4 have represented.
The Netherlands 2019 - Duncan Laurence - Arcade

Ouch, this is unfortunate. Your design, especially with the styling of the hair and the earrings, looks conservative and incredibly dated and not in a good way. It's all really drab. I will give you credit for a couple of things. You've managed to capture the melancholic tune of the performance and there are some interesting details here, like that belt buckle I've never seen before and that gorgeous scarf that's purple and partly white. I also like the heels. The biggest issue is not that it looks so unmodern and like a conservative politician going out to a fundraiser, it's rather that the connection to the performance is slim to none. Sure, you've got some dark elements there and I did state that I wouldn't be a bitch if a designer didn't use the colors present in the video, I just personally don't see a design that is as vulnerable and heart-wrenching as Duncan Laurence and his magical performance. For this task I believe it was necessary for you to amp up the drama and give a silhouette that isn't so conventional. The design you submitted the week before represents Arcade better than this design does.

Only one contestant chose Arcade and I wanted it to be represented a little bit more this panel, sue me!

Italy 2021 - Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni

You have kept a high standard throughout this season. I don't think there is a designer who has created more magic or more showstoppers with PR as you have through the many longterms you've been in. For this season, I believe we have all been waiting for a moment in which you bring out that spectacular showstopper and finally that moment is here. Zitti E Buoni means shut up, more or less, and there is no doubt that you shut up your competitors with this design. To me, your dress represents a metal cage that your model broke out of and they are now wearing and owning the cage, tables turned. Your dress evokes the feeling of breaking free and there is a clear industrial style to your design which goes along really well with the rock sound and Måneskin's aesthetic. Måneskin also wears a certain stitch-pattern on their pants which resembles the pattern you've created and that is wonderful. There is also a slight softness to the bottom of the skirt and that is a great contrast to the hard metal textures on the top. You were smart with the choice of shoes, white heels wouldn't have been as rock-and-roll, you effectively manage to keep your design young and fresh with the boots.
cinthia

This looks like a combination of the old, quirky Cinthia who won S1 and the new Cinthia who has developed her style and
uses darker elements. I'd say on paper that the forehead-earring would be a bad idea but it works surprisingly well with
the other earrings and the whole outfit. Congratulations to you for figuring out that magical, peach-colored combination on your chest, it feels edgy yet beautiful. It was a good idea to bring in a rusty skirt to bring more nuance to the outfit, it also allows the top to shine while the bottom has an effective supporting role. This 100 % feels like a true collaboration of Cinthia x Måneskin and although your outfit is packed with details, there is still a balance because of the color choices you made. My only complaint is that I don't like the orange shoes, they're just a bit too Halloween for me. I can hear the song Zitti E Buoni when I look at your design and that is what the task was about, well done.

At first you submitted an outfit way too similar to Cinthia's week 4 outfit. I assume it's not plagiarism but rather
subconscious parallel thinking. Then you submitted an outfit you said you loved and thought was a masterpiece, an outfit
that was nice but which would probably have been a guaranteed elimination for you based on how many times that look has already been done. This design is good but not great, it's a little undercooked. I adore the contrast of the texturized
fabric fighting through the more minimalistic and sleek gray fabric. The belt is also an interesting addition as it correlates with the skirt and it has a nice rusty, metallic feeling to it. I've seen you use that backpack-accessory better and the poncho doesn't do that much for the outfit, it feels like a rushed fix for an outfit that wasn't done yet because with more time and thought this would've been divine. I feel like you've started to overthink and worry, instead you need to go back to having fun with the tasks and just trust your gut and your creative process.
Ukraine 2021 - Go_A - Shum
snawl

You told me you had fun with this task and it shows because this whole outfit is fun. You paid homage to Katryna's lovely green fur jacket that she achieved through skinning the Grinch and the way you do it is in an unexpected and avant garde way, I've never really seen that lime-green composition before and I applaud it. This design is chaotic and yet the color story is soothing, the structure is chaotic and yet it makes sense, I love how it looks like the fabric is playing Snake (the mobile game) from the neck and down your model's back. The subtle yet effective detail of having part of the shoes in a different shade of blue is brilliant. Is this Snawl going to an Ukrainian rave in the forrest? Absolutely! There is tons of energy in this outfit and I could sit and just look at this for an hour because it's so packed with different elements and details, and that is the way it perfectly relates to Shum, it gets stuck on your head and it makes you wake up a bit (or a lot). I wasn't so sure about the cap, but then I figured it relates well to your style and the overall unexpectedness of the design. Fantastic work this week Brad!

I fucking love it. This design says ''I CAN'T HEAR YOU! DON'T CALL ME! I'M IN THE UKRAINIAN FORREST LIVING MY BEST LIFE AT A RAVE!''. On paper, creating a green-fur dress with yellow details is a terrible, terrible idea, however this is one of the rare times it actually works. This could've easily backfired, however the choices you made is what makes this an A+ outfit. The fur is concentrated and structured in a way that makes it tasteful and I love that the earring extends the beautiful madness. Had this been a design in which there was some other crazy/tacky element, like a long colorful sleeve coming out from under the fur, your design would've been ruined. The black tie gives new meaning to the furry vest you utilized which was smart because that item is so overused and scolded in the world of PR. The skirt encapsulates the magical feeling of Shum and I'm glad you went for a neutralizing color on the heel to keep it tasteful. This design is a dance between darkness and light, madness and clear sanity. Bravo Alex!

Kaytlin, this is the best thing you have ever designed. You look like a techno-goddess. Designing something with that much black is usually risky, however you did it to achieve a certain silhouette and to accentuate the blue and green details which are weirdly structured yet chaotic, exactly like the performance of Shum. Sure, someone might argue that this is more costume than fashion, I personally believe what elevates this design is the careful decisions you made, you didn’t go over the top, there is rather a taste level and a balance that is evident. I love it when designers create their own accessories and I haven’t got a clue how you did that helmet but I am a big fan of it. This outfit has elements of darkness, madness and uplifting energy and I couldn’t be more pleased with your interpretation. Not a single one of your fellow competitors claimed that they see you make final 3, but if you continue to design like this I can almost guarantee you will.

Congratulations icearbr, you are the winner of this week's task. Your metal cage dress was something we have never seen before and it envoked the feeling of breaking free and you couldn't have done Måneskin and Zitti E Buoni more justice. Well done to .Cow. and alydaman for making it to the top 3 this week. A special shout out to Snawl as well, the 3 of you couldn't have done a better job with Shum and I am so grateful for the way you 3 embraced the song and turned out 3 spectacular outfits.
Unfortunately, nibbles943 is eliminated this week. Nibbles, in a season that is a complete bloodbath, you have been the most interesting underdog this season and your journey has been an exciting one to follow. Thank you for giving it your all and for being such a kind and professional contestant, I am a fan of you and I celebrate who you are.
