TASK 6 CAVES

.png)
Welcome to the sixth panel of LidlTerm S2!
For this week, my top 8 were asked to go cave-exploring and create a design based off 1 out of 5 caves. There is something special about caves, they have a sense of adventure to them and as someone who believes that places and environments store energy, caves almost vibrate with energy from the past +100000 years. For this task I specifically asked to see textures that represent the cave that the designer chose.
Let's see how they did!
LAGO GENERAL CARRERA, BUENOS AIRES

Kaytlin, what the hell. When you submitted this you told me you were inspired by Marvel Cave in Missouri. Hello?! That was not 1 of the 5 options I provided for the 8 of you. I'm afraid I can't judge you on an outfit based off a cave that wasn't part of the task, that would be unfair to the other contestants who had to embrace the challenges that comes with each cave. I'm not quite sure if you didn't read the task instructions because of indifference or lack of time. I spend a lot of time creating these tasks and I expect my cast to at least take the time to read all of the instructions. I don't think your intensions were to be disrespectful, I am so happy to have you as a friend and I am a huge fan of you as a designer. The outfit itself is really cute even though the structure is a bit too overdone for me. The color palette is on point and the choice to add a pair of blue heels was brilliant and I love that, it elevates the whole look. Unfortunately, this is more or less a disqualification.

I was quite surprised by your approach this week for some reason, and impressed. You knew exactly what you wanted to do and it shows that you had a lot of confidence in your creative process. This design has a lot of textures without it being too busy or overdesigned - a balance that is important in a task like this and not always easily achieved. You look like a desert wanderer and I am a huge sucker for that aesthetic. Something I really like about this outfit is that if your eyes start at the headscarf, the design just gets more and more texturized and layered as your eyes go down. A strange thing I love is that the earring is so subtle and yet it does so much for the design in a way I can't really describe, it gives a bit of nuance to the sand-colored fabrics. I believe that throughout this longterm you are continuously showing more and more conceptual sides of you which I really appreciate. There is a dark, mysterious undertone to this outfit, just like there is to the cave you chose. I can't find a thing to complain about, it's a strong execution of a strong concept.

I wanted textures this week and you absolutely spoil me with textures. Your design has a sense of adventure and an inspiring dirtiness to it, it's exciting to look at and it perfectly represents the feeling that I get from the Texas cave. I think the overall aesthetic you chose for this task also feels very Texas-wild-west in an editorial way which I appreciate. The bag is my favorite item, it looks so filthy and dystopian. You made several smart choices here, first of all you added a smidge of orange which is incredibly effective and it's really what your design needed. Second of all, you chose a top that has pretty much no textures which creates a balance and prevents your design from feeling chaotic, instead of the many textures fighting with each other they're in harmony. I think you are one of those designers who might struggle a little bit with drawing a line between PR and RPDR because submitting an outfit that has an animal on your head isn't really PR-appropriate, although I must say it matches and does a fantastic job on adding more textures to your design.

You frustrate me Harry. Last week you overthought and tripped yourself and it happened this week as well. I asked for textures this week and first you showed me a gorgeous, interesting outfit (Fingal's cave) with tons of textures that had the potential of being best or second best this week. Then for no reason you drove yourself insane and submitted a complete eyesore and then resubmitted this look. I have never seen the spider web skirt extended like that which is really cool and I appreciate that there are textures to this outfit. The rest of the design is just really ''meh''. The shoes do absolutely nothing for the design and I am just left wanting so much more from the cool skirt and belt. For task 1 and 4 you created two of the best longterm outfits I've ever seen and I need you to assess what your designing process was back then and apply it for next task if you survive elimination this week. This design isn't representative of your full potential. There are people on this earth who would pay tons of money to have a wild, creative brain like yours - do it justice.

You’ve really established yourself as a frontrunner in this longterm, every week you submit designs with ice cold confidence, designs that are fresh and conceptually strong. Those shoes are the accessory that defines 2021 and I have never seen a better use for them than here, with the dress and the pose they look highly editorial and avant garde. The black belt is really cool and elevates your look. My problem is that the dress itself is cute, but it reminds me too much of the one motormickeyNEW made for task 1. I don’t think you copied him however. Don’t let that bring you down, this is a great design and you are unstoppable if your approach to this longterm remains.

Interesting, I believe this is the most lowkey design I have seen you do in a long time, even though it is technically advanced in a most subtle way. I haven’t got a clue how you created the unique accessories for the face but I love them. The strongest aspect of this look is without a doubt the shoes, they represent that fresh and soothing feeling of nature that are characteristic to most caves. The black illusion is neat and it looks like the purple, black and green fabrics are dancing around your model. The color palette is beautiful and I appreciate that you keep showing us new sides of Icearbr. Having said that, this isn’t a very exciting design and I don’t think that your look grasps the full potential of the task. This was an opportunity to really experiment with textures and that didn’t happen.

You somehow captured a Scottish essence and created a modern, urban streetwear look out of it and it is absolutely beautiful. The styling is on point, it's been long since I've seen those earrings utilized so well and the turtleneck illusion along with the hair adds to the mystical and almost magical feeling of Fingal's cave. Choosing to recreate the textures of the water that runs through the cave was an unexpected and bold move, however I must say that the result is breathtaking, you took two such overused and forgotten items and created a magical illusion. The white shoes does wonders for your look as they evoke a sense of freshness and although I've seen the jacket before you made your own version of it with the turtleneck and the tattoo. To me, your design represents the contrast of serenity and the chilling feeling that Fingal's cave evokes. There is a lot of layers to the top which was a smart way to represent Fingal's cave's many layers of stones. Overall I am in love with this mixture of the past and the present that is your design.
motormickeynew

The structure of your design is good yet very unoriginal, it's been done before many times. However, I still fancy this look, your version is gorgeous. The color palette is what carries your design, teal mixed with the color of sand is a perfect combination. One of my favorite aspects of this design is that dark green strap along with the shoulder bag, it gives your look a slightly darker feeling and more depth which is essential for a task like this. I must say that there is an issue with you mickey. Throughout this longterm, I feel like you've submitted designs that are incredibly strong in concept but the execution never does the concept justice, except for your task 1 submission. It often feels like if you just spent more time and passion focusing on designing one look instead of three or four each week, you could potentially be in the top every week. There is so much creativity and technical skills just bubbling underneath the surface and I want to see you reach your full potential, I don't think we've seen it. Moving forward, please choose one design that speaks to you most and play around with it and experiment with it as much as you can without driving yourself crazy, that's my best tip to you.

I was just hanging out when I got a Discord message from nibbles: ”HERE IS MY SUBMISSION FOR TASK 6!” and a picture of this design. This is a really chic outfit and I am so impressed by your overall growth. Nibbles, I am a huge fan of you after this longterm and I fucking adore you. However, nice try but eliminated means eliminated. Now I’m going to have to call security to have them escort your ass off the building.

Congratulations alydaman, you are the winner of this week's task. Your design was eerie yet had a feeling of tranquility. It's a fresh mixture of the present, the future and the past as well as the light and the dark. The illusion you created was brilliant and you are my clear winner for this task. Well done to Cinthia and Snawl for making top 3 as well as making the Texas cave justice, both of your designs caught my interest in the same way that the cave did.
Unfortunately, .Cow. is eliminated due to not following the rules of this task. Kaytlin, you are a star in my eyes and you should be very proud of the journey you've made on LidlTerm S2, you got your confidence and glow back as a designer.
.Uhu, you were incredibly close to being eliminated and was saved due to Kaytlin's mistake. Please take this rare chance to make a strong comeback for the next task.
